Virgo, Tamales & Firebrands

SevenfoldMystery_13WandsToday’s card is a lovely example of a firebrand who’s learned to control her fire and make her brand anyway. She reminds me of my friend, Ruth. I met Ruth a few years ago at a community market. Another friend had met me there for coffee and some of the best tamales I’ve ever had. Those tamales were there because of Ruth. No, Ruth didn’t make the tamales…Roz did. But Ruth was the passion behind the Renaissance Market. Sadly that wonderful incubator for microbusinesses lost their lease when the building owners wouldn’t renew (they wanted to sell it outright).

Luckily for me, that firebrand (who happens to be a Virgo) stayed in touch. She is off to new, wonderful things in Oklahoma now but my life was forever changed by that woman. She’s intense. She’s a straight shooter. She’s passionate about what she believes in. And let me tell you what. If she believes in something, get the hell out of her way. She will make it happen. She believes things into being. I swear she does.

I learned a lot about living a passionate life from her in the few meetings we had. It’s not like we hung our or were besties. It’s just that I saw in her the kind of woman I knew I could be. Someone who could live their life as they chose without worrying about what other people thought.

Yeah…that Ruth. She’s definitely a Queen of Wands. This Queen of Stave is from Robert M. Place’s Tarot of the SevenFold Mystery. Lovely, isn’t she? In charge of herself and her passion, that’s our girl.

Your journal prompt today is, “What does living a passionate life mean to me?”

I DO IT MYSELF!

Illuminati_13WandsToday’s card is from a deck that I have on order. I haven’t heard yet whether it is in. The lush beauty of the first card I see pulled me in–hard. I am a very visual person. If there is a TV on near me, I check right out of any conversations. I try to position myself with my back to the tube if I’m out at dinner with friends.

And here’s why. As I stare at this card, I see the lions (all four of them), the Daliesque sunflowers, the cat who looks so much like my beloved Carmen, the hint of a peacock on the staff, the rich fabric of her dress and the face of Angeline Jolie staring out at me.

Is it Jolie? I don’t know. She’d make an excellent Queen of Wands though. But this card shows off the stylish side of the active Fire mistress. Odd that I am such a water sign but identify with this queen more than any other.

She is fierce. She is ready to get things done. She is a do-it-herself woman.

Those are pluses as well as minuses really.

That last one…that do-it-herself one? Yeah. That’s why I’m currently on two different medications. One to stop the inflammation and the other to help me sleep while the inflammation is still raging. In a word? I hurt.

Why?

Back to that do-it-herself. I could have easily asked for help moving the dog crate and other things for my house-sitting gig. Did I? No. Why?

Picture a three year old, curly black hair, hands on hips shouting, “I DO IT MYSELF.”

Yeah. Never quite grew out of that.

So now I get to pay for that toddler attitude. 😀

What about you? What is your “DO IT MYSELF” moment? How did you learn to stop and ask?

I’m still working on that one. Getting a bit better, but still…hands on hips!

Your To-Do List Needs Work

Today’s card reminds me that my to-do list isn’t always right. I mean it is right in that it has a lot of things I need to do but it isn’t right in that it doesn’t always have ALL the things I need to do. It’s my Queen of Wands mode. She’s that part of me that makes lists and tackles
things.

Still with me?

Celestial_13WandsWho owns my to-do list? It’s my Queen of Wands self. She’s that part of me that makes lists and tackles
things. I know this is a bit convoluted, but stick with me here. I want to explain why my to-do list is not right.

A typical To-Do list for teh Arwen can read:

  1. Do laundry
  2. Buy dog food
  3. Call in prescription
  4. Prepare Tarot class ad
  5. Write blog post
  6. etc…

Now that’s not such a bad list, right? Solid, concrete things that need to be checked off. Each item is a tangible atta girl for me once I’ve done it. But it’s not right.

It’s missing so much.

Why isn’t my to-do list more like this:

  1. Do laundry
  2. Sing to cats in a loud voice
  3. Buy dog food
  4. Smile at three strangers
  5. Call in prescription
  6. Write myself a love letter
  7. Prepare Tarot class ad
  8. Seek Joy
  9. etc…

See what I mean? My to-do list needs more joy seeking tasks. Things that bring me joy. Things that bring others joy which brings me joy because I’m riffing of their joy. Ouch. My head! I have to stop with the loop-de-loop logic games. LOL

So! You probably saw this coming a mile away. Today’s 180 second challenge is to redo your to-do list (do one if you don’t have one to redo). EEP! There I go again with the loop-de-loop. Must be the Full Moon energy. But back to the challenge.

Can you commit to adding 2-4 things to your To-Do list that are more about joy than anything else? And no, my darling Cappies, you can’t say that you get joy from finishing your to-do’s. LOL C’mon! I know you can do this.

So tell me in the comments what you did today!

Mockingbird Lessons

The Queen of Wands is a quick-witted, quick-tempered individual. She nurtures but is less cookies-and-hugs and more “Tiger mom”. Her vigilance keeps her offspring safe.

Mockingbird_eggheavyJune2009Today’s card could be the Queen of Wands. Here is a female mockingbird heavy with egg. She is perched in a hibiscus plant that lived on the front porch in Del Valle, TX. She had two eggs already in the nest when I took this shot.

Mockingbirds fascinate me. I unsuccessfully tried to save a baby once (I had better luck with robins and sparrows). It broke my 13 year old heart when Trooper died.

This fierce mother had no problems with attacking me when I bent over to water my tomatoes each day. I was also able to take some amazing shots of her babies as they grew up.

The Queen of Wands is a quick-witted, quick-tempered individual. She nurtures but is less cookies-and-hugs and more “Tiger mom”. Her vigilance keeps her offspring safe.

The female mockingbird does sing. Did you know that? She saves her song for those times when she is not engaged in nesting and chick raising so you will only hear her in the fall into the winter.

Who do you protect? How do you protect them? Do you protect yourself as fiercely?

How can you be a mama mockingbird to yourself? Who do you need to reset some of your nest boundaries with?

Can you commit to three minutes today? Just 180 seconds to focus on how you protect your own beautiful self?
