Are You Mossy?

GEM78_5This card reminds me that a rolling stone gathers no moss. This can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it.

On the no moss side, you are assured of a constantly changing view. You will never be bored if you are always on the move.

On the moss side, you would find time to rest and time to sink your roots down into a place before gallivanting off again.

I’ve been both, I think. I’ve lived in Kansas, Texas, Louisiana, Ohio, Michigan, Georgia, Utah, and Colorado with several repeat stops in both Louisiana and Texas.

One of the pluses of that gadfly behaviour was the chance to make and maintain friendships all over the country. Thanks to finding the internet (that was in Michigan), I met people I would have never met.

The first stop for me on the internet was pre-world wide web days. In fact, as I write this, I’m wearing a sweatshirt that proudly says, “use your modem to dial.” Oh yeah, those were the days. My first home on the ‘net was a place called Grex. It was magical for me. It’s still out there too!

I found a place where there were areas to be myself as well as areas to play in fantasy worlds as another character. I think it was the first place I exercised my creative writing other than via letters with Cai who is the other half of Marilu Mann.

The Four of Swords here is from AGMuller’s Gemstones and Crystals Tarot. While I don’t necessarily agree with all the choices this deck makes, I love moss agate for the Four of Swords.

Have you been a rolling stone? Where did you roll to?

Have you gathered moss? Where were you when you first felt that idea of “Oh, this is what it feels like to belong?”

I’m challenging you today to use 180 seconds of your day to focus on one of those questions. Then tell me about it.

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.

I’ve learned how to take my mossy and non-mossy self to the next level with Leonie Dawson. You can too. Click the graphic below (aff link) to learn how. I have belonged since last May and it has truly galvanized me. I’d love to have you join me on this journey.

Are You Humble?

zentangle009Today’s card is from my zentangles. It’s actually a mandala with zentangle elements. I’m most proud of the shading on this one.

I hesitated before I wrote that. It seems…well…a bit prideful, you know? (Pssst, you can click it to see a larger image)

But then again, why shouldn’t I say I like something that I did? Lately I’ve seen a trend. There’s this overbearing sense of humility out on the web.

“Gee, I don’t have anything you could possible want but here’s a book I wrote. Maybe you’ll like it?”

“Oh I don’t know why you are here reading my post when you could be out doing something really amazing.”

“If you have nothing better to do, maybe you could tell a friend about this widget I’m selling? It might really be okay.”

Y’all. Listen up.

There’s nothing wrong with saying, “I am selling houses now. If you are in the market, chat me up. I’ve got some killer marketing strategies.”

Or

“I rock at teaching entrepeneurs how to really shine.”

Which would you be more interested in?

A) So yeah, I write naughty girl porn books
or
B) I write this great series about sexy-as-sin shifters who meet their matches. From steamy New Orleans to saunas in Wisconsin, you will want one of these passionate hotties curled up in the bed with you.

I’ve said it before. I’ll say it again.

Be your own publicist.

Publicist
I give you permission to tell me something amazing about yourself in the comments. Got a book you wrote? Have a product you sell? Host a can’t-be-missed radio show? Are you one bad mammajamma?

Tell me. Sing your own praises. Believe in yourself.

Yep, that’s your 180 seconds today. Commit to believing yourself. Commit to buying the hype about YOU.

I think you are freakin’ awesome. I want you to believe that too.

Oh and hey. I wrote this hella hot series about singe-your-hair sexy shifters. Check them out!

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.

Zentangle, Arwen Lynch, 2013

Tick…Tick…BOOM!

Hoo boy, Arwen is hot under the collar. I think if I drew a card, I’d get the Five of Fire right now. Full on flame-throwing fire-breathing dragon mode.

Hoo boy, “teh Arwen” is hot under the collar. I think if I drew a card, I’d get the Five of Fire right now. Full on flame-throwing fire-breathing dragon mode.

Here is what Joanna Powell Colbert says of this card:

A fire performer spits billowing flames out of his mouth. Twisted faces of gargoyles or maddened creatures form in the smoke and fire.

Divinatory meaning: Anger, rage, fury. Hubris. A dangerous game. The temptation to dominate or have power over others.

Someone is trying to dominate another. And it is making me FURIOUS. You see, Continue reading “Tick…Tick…BOOM!”

June 2010 Tarotscopes

So it’s June already. Are you ready for Summer (or Winter if you are on the other side of the world)? Are you doing anything fun? Hope you enjoy this month’s Tarotscopes. Some of you need to be on the look out for love while others need to come out of your caves. And there’s a huge lesson about generosity as well.

Leave me a comment, please.

Remember that Marilu Mann has a new book out called Sex And Trouble. You can read an excerpt here. Or you can go here to read a different excerpt.

Musings on the Ace of Air

What do pirates and butterflies and friends we’ve never met have in common?

Today’s Gaian Tarot is the Ace of Air. It makes me smile just looking at it! A Monarch butterfly has left its cocoon and is nearly ready to fly. Did you know that the butterfly is not born ready to fly? The larva leaves the shelter of its silken tomb Continue reading “Musings on the Ace of Air”

Amazon, you suck!

You may know that I am also a published fiction author. I write as Marilu Mann for Ellora’s Cave. I write erotica. I am not willing to be swept under a rug by this inane censorship.

What is Amazon Rank? What does it mean? If you read anything Amazon deems as “adult”, it means you won’t find your favorite books in the “top lists”.

Here’s what Amazon’s Customer Service told author Mark Probst who writes YA gay fiction not erotic and not adult.

In consideration of our entire customer base, we exclude “adult” material from appearing in some searches and best seller lists. Since these lists are generated using sales ranks, adult materials must also be excluded from that feature.

Check out what SmartBitches has to say about this so-called Amazon Rank and check out #amazonfail on Twitter.

Why am I doing this? As SmartBitches points out
The goal: that “Amazon Rank” points to the definition that underscores Amazon.com’s shortminded censorship and inconsistent policing of what ought to be accessible to the book buying public.

Changing Times On Amazon!

Changing Times by Marilu Mann

I so thrilled to let y’all know that Changing Times (co-written with my best friend, Cai Smith) is now on Amazon. I’m so happy. Thanks for all of your support. I really appreciate it. Isn’t it wild that it feels even more real to see it on Amazon?

P. to the S. I totally wiped out the earlier groovy post with all the reviews and excerpt. SIGH. Head here for all the fancy-schmancy stuff including the reviews, etc. 🙂
