When Ravens Fly Alone

I long to be a modified hermit where I see only people who bring me joy and read only things that bring me joy. But because of the world I live in, I must be a person who understands that sometimes I have to dig deep for the joy.

#affirmation Today I carry my own light. Today I set my eyes on my own prize. Today I move forward knowing I am the only one who knows my way. Loved and loving, I love each of you. Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.

Here is the Hermit from the Animalis Os Fortuna. Strangely this is not one of my favorite cards from this deck. I am not sure why but I think it is because it doesn’t clearly show the theme of the deck.

Still, it’s a nice representation of the energy of the Hermit card. Focusing on something only it can see, the Raven flies off. It is on a solitary journey but it carries the light in the hopes others will see and follow.

Sometimes it feels that way to me. Especially when I read of horrific things in the news…most especially then. I want to set my filters so I see nothing in the news.

And I know that’s not a great attitude for how will I know what to avoid if I don’t hear the news, right? It’s that dichotomy that is speaking to me today.

I long to be a modified hermit where I see only people who bring me joy and read only things that bring me joy. But because of the world I live in, I must be a person who understands that sometimes I have to dig deep for the joy.

Do You Know The Boomerang Man?

I put out joy. Joy comes back. Joy is a boomerang. So is hate. So is anger.

I know what I want coming back to me. What about you?

Navigators Of The Mystic Sea Emperor
Navigators Of The Mystic Sea

I know the Boomerang Man. Not many people can say this but those of us who can generally grin when we say it. I met Rich of theboomerangman.com in 1976…maybe 75. He was out on my high school band’s practice field (no we didn’t own it…lots of people used it). I watched this guy whip a curved stick away from him only to have it return.

He saw me and asked if I wanted to try it. Oh the wicked man! I was so hooked on the hooks. I threw as often as I could. I purchased some fairly pricey ‘rangs too. Wish I had them still. I might go find a field and throw again.

He always laughed at me because I have a really weird throw. Instead of a straight arm throw, I cross my chest. Anyway! This Emperor from the Navigators of the Mystic Sea always makes me think of Rich.

Then there is this quote by Florence Scovel Shinn. She states, “The game of life is the game of boomerangs. Our thoughts, deeds and words return to us sooner or later, with astounding accuracy.”

I’ve found this to be very true. Have you? It’s one of the reasons I watch what I say and do. I screw up…believe you me, I screw up. But the overriding theme in my life of seeking joy? That’s the one that comes back to me more than anything.

I know what I want coming back to me. What about you?

Today I create joy. Today I open up to the good in the world. Today I laugh. Loved and loving, I love each of you. Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.

Gorgons, Love & Affirmations

Today’s thought? Too much sturm and drang, baby. Too. Much. Everyone seems to be pissy–even me. I have caught myself being super judgmental and exceptionally mean these past few weeks.

So I pulled a card at random…

Today’s thought? Too much sturm and drang, baby. Too. Much. Everyone seems to be pissy–even me. I have caught myself being super judgmental and exceptionally mean these past few weeks.

So I pulled a card at random from The Gorgon’s Tarot by Dolores Fitch (Schiffer Publishing).

Whoop.There it is.

[Tweet “Speak love or speak not at all. That’s the phrase that came to me when I saw this card.”]

This is a round Tarot (kudos to Schiffer for producing a round Tarot since they are very hard to print from what I hear.) It is in black and white with some rare accents of red here and there.

The box is one of the things Schiffer does the best. Sturdy with a magnetic closure, this box is about the size of a hardback book. The cards and LWB nestle nicely inside.

I’m fascinated by the artwork because it reminds me a bit of the art of Zentangle which I indulge in.

This deck doesn’t shy away from unusual artistic interpretations while still holding on to tradition. Here we see the man and woman looking up at the spirit. Well, she’s looking but his eyes are cast toward her.

So only one of them is really getting the message. Sounds like more than one relationship, doesn’t it?

Communication is important. Right now, for me, communication with love as the message is more important. I’m going to do my best to sit on myself for one more week. I tend to get really cranky during Mercury Retrogrades (even when I don’t know they are coming!)

Affirmation for today:

I speak love. I repeat love. I stay open to love. I turn my ears away from meanness. I offer comfort when there is sadness. I offer peace when there is anger. Loved and loving, I love each of you. Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.

Snakebites & Love

What about you? What do you see in this card? Why do you think the snake bites one and not the other?

Deviant Moon Borderless Lovers
Deviant Moon Borderless

Today’s card is a reminder that there is balance in love. This deck intrigues me a lot. I don’t read with it very often but just got a copy of it for review. It’s the borderless version of the Deviant Moon Tarot from U.S. Games. So much is happening here.

The two lovers are entwined. The Moon shines a dedicated beam down to them. A snake chomps on the male figure’s left leg. Is that to envenomate or is it to warn or maybe it is to transform?

Her head is back in what looks like ecstasy to me. His eyes are wide open where as hers are shut. She is trusting that he will hold her and not drop her.

In some ways this card is super disturbing to me. It reminds me of all the times I’ve trusted someone not to drop me. Of all the times I’ve gone into a relationship blind.

But why does the snake bite him and not her?

In my current relationship, I feel that I do have my eyes open. We have known one another for three years. We’ve had love, fights, sickness, joy…and so much more. So we decided to get married since neither of us could see it going any where else. Not so romantic as it might have been if we were in our twenties…grin. But far less drama!

So I’ll take this balanced lovers card as a reminder that trust and seeing things for what they are are the important messages for today.

What about you? What do you see in this card? Why do you think the snake bites one and not the other?

Tarot In Nine Words: The Devil

Card Fifteen is one of the BigBadBohemeth ™ cards of the Tarot. The Devil carries such ingrained meanings for any one who was raised in a typical Christian home–myself included. But I will never forget what Father Trimble (Episcopal) said once.

Rider Waite Smith Devil
Rider Waite Smith

I began this project in 2008. One of my hundred things to do is finish this project.

Back in 1993 I started a thread called the 9Word Poetry Challenge. We put up nine words and were to create poems from them. I still do that challenge every now and again. I then applied it to the Tarot.

I look at the card to get nine words. Then those nine words have to be used in a poem about the card. ๐Ÿ˜€ Sounds easy, right? Well, sometimes…it’s not!

Card Fifteen is one of the BigBadBohemeth ™ cards of the Tarot. The Devil carries such ingrained meanings for any one who was raised in a typical Christian home–myself included. But I will never forget what Father Trimble (Episcopal) said once.

“Hell is being removed from God.”

He never preached brimstone and fire, but the idea of being absented from God’s presence scared the beejeezus out of me. When I first started reading the Tarot, the Devil was a difficult concept for me.

Then I learned that this card was about overindulging in self-pleasures and not caring how it affected others.

Here are my nine words: Wings Chains Flames Fruit Naked Torch Frown Horns Satyr

Here is my poem:

The Devil You Know

Tie me down but let me go
Chains I’ve made myself
Your horns curve towards me
My own reach to your wings
Vestigial tail lit with flames
A reminder of passions unwatched
Some fruits remain forbidden
Still I would be naked to you
Your frown a terrible thing
Release me, you fearsome satyr
I cry then realize this sad thing
Your torch is lit by my own flame
I control the locks and keys.

Dreams, Prosperity + Getting Out Of The Way

One of my big things I preach when doing a reading is the concept of prosperity. I harp on the fact that prosperity is so much more than mere money in the bank.

Sun, Cat's Eye Tarot
Cat’s Eye Tarot

Okay, this is really crazy. You know how they say, “Just speak your desire out loud” or “Write your goal down”?

This morning I wrote down about twenty things on my list of 100 things to do in 2014. Tonight I found out that I will be marking one of them off my list next week. Yeah. How about them apples?

It’s an unexpected gift. It’s an incredibly generous gift.

I firmly believe in the power of stating what you want. And then letting go of it. Sometimes, we get in the way of our dreams. We try to control them. We try to channel them into what we think is the right thing.

[Tweet “Sometimes, the right thing is to shut up and let go.”\

I’ll be doing more work with my workbook. I haven’t even written down the big goals.

One of my big things I preach when doing a reading is the concept of prosperity. I harp on the fact that prosperity is so much more than mere money in the bank. It’s above and beyond that.

Prosperity is the people in our lives. It’s the home we live in. It’s the laughter and joy we generate. It’s not just green, folding cash. It’s what makes us feel wealthy.

I pulled a card focused on “what do I need to know about my prosperity.”

The answer? The Sun. A beautiful orange tabby cat leans against a post. He’s home. He’s safe. He’s enjoying a simple pot of daisies and a gorgeous view.

My answer to “what do I need to know about my prosperity” is to enjoy what I have. Realize that I am living a very prosperous life.

It only gets better from here.

Radavie, Shadows + Magic

An older man–don’t remember his name–explained a bit of what he was going to do. In my head my skepticism was very high. Dive into an animal’s soul? Retrieve fractured bits? Heal the animal if possible?

Fool, Paulina Tarot

Today’s card is a reminder to never lose hope in magic. That we should always be open to new and different things. The world is a complicated place. I don’t think we can know all there is to know, do you? And that’s part of the FUN of being alive.

In my years on this earth this time, I’ve learned that sometimes we lose pieces of ourselves. There are many ways to regain those pieces. One of those ways is a Shamanic process I know of as “shadow retrieval.”

I was once a part of a small circle where this was done–this shadow retrieval. It wasn’t done on a human. It was done for a cat. I had known the family for a few years. This cat was a foundling. She never, and I mean never, came out if there were strangers in her house. Even people like myself and my partner were not trusted. The only people she trusted were her two humans.

An older man–don’t remember his name–explained a bit of what he was going to do. In my head my skepticism was very high. Dive into an animal’s soul? Retrieve fractured bits? Heal the animal if possible?

WHAT?

Well, y’all, let me tell you. I suspended my disbelief and joined the circle. We drummed very softly as this man (he was just a little man and about 60 maybe?) went into a trance. It was 30 maybe 45 minutes later when he let us know we could stop.

As he told us what he’d seen of her early times, that cat came out. Hand to the Gods, that never-seen feline wander out. She rubbed up against her humans first, then each of us in the circle.

Tonight, I am chatting with a facilitator of Shamanic Healing. Her name is Radavie. You can explore her Facebook page (and I hope you like that page as well.) You can also learn more about her at her website.

Illuminati Tarot, SunToday’s card is a reminder to focus on what’s important. There are so many things in our daily lives that require attention. So many choices to make. But sometimes multi-tasking isn’t the way to go.

This Sun from the Illuminati Tarot by Erik C. Dunne and Kim Huggens reminds me of that. See this opulent sun? Set in a mirror of gold, it really can’t be missed.

What things in your life can’t be missed? Time to make a list of what needs to be done. Then do it!

For me, that’s working on my workbook. I have been holding off starting because I want the time to be right. Since tonight is the first night of the Full Moon (I do Full Moon workings the day before, day of and day after), I will start tonight.

But first, I have to prepare my Yule Tarot Blog Hop post. Then I have to go to work. And then I get to chat with a very interesting woman tonight!

Bindiya Aravandekar is my guest tonight on You Never Know. Set your alarms now so you don’t miss this one. Do watch the show at http://www.paraencountersnetwork.com/ Time:10:00pm EST.

We will be talking about the Akashic Records. Bindiya will discuss how she works with Akashic Record Healing to coach her clients and the healing that it has brought about.

She says she’s a bit nervous so I do hope a lot of you will show up to support her. See you tonight!

One thing I learned from Leonie’s fab workbook is the art of making a list of Most Important Tasks. Mine are simple. Each day walking 5000 steps and drinking 32 oz of water is on that list. Then I have a third one blank so I can add one more. And remember, if you get the workbook (the downloadable one), you get a free three card email reading from me. ๐Ÿ˜€

Sometimes that thing is “Smile at more people” or “compliment three strangers” or “focus on not responding to the bait”. Grin. I have to adjust it for me each day.

Cake, Solomon + Justice

That’s a hard job. To be fair to all without adjusting here and there for yourself. I learned this lesson as a kid.

Victorian Fairy Tarot The MagistrateToday’s card is from a brand-new deck. It’s by Lunea Weatherstone with art by Gary A. Lippincott. I saw this one online and wanted it for the artwork. I love the era it is set in. The Victorian Fairy Tarot looks delicate to me with the soft colors and fairies that abound. I shuffled the deck without looking through it (I normally view the cards first). My focus was what the deck wanted me to know about our relationship.

The Magistrate, or Justice, showed up. I did read the description to learn that the flower is the rudbeckia which means “justice.” I love that he contemplates the scroll in front of him while barefooted and outside.

This card really carries the compassionate side of justice for me. Our legal eagle is considering all the possibilities. No snap judgement from our judge. He is fair in all things even when it may not be the best for himself personally.

That’s a hard job. To be fair to all without adjusting here and there for yourself. I learned this lesson as a kid.

“You cut the cake into two pieces but your sister gets to pick which piece first.”

That is a living example of Justice. I had to cut the cake as evenly as possible. There was no making my slice just a bit bigger or making sure my slice had the best piece of icing. [Tweet “My mother was Solomon reborn and the cake was the baby.”]

Now we all have areas where it is hard to be fair to all without putting ourselves first. What are those areas in your life? I know for me one is my Tarot decks and books. I want to keep the best for myself. ๐Ÿ˜€

Your journal prompt for today is “How can I make the fairest decisions for all with compassion?”

The Magistrate, The Victorian Fairy Tarot, Llewellyn, 2013

Is one of your goals for 2014 to write that book? Let me help you with a thirty-three day eCourse. You’ll use Tarot to plot your hero’s journey as well as get handouts and journal prompts to encourage you. See what others are saying about this course.
