Six of Water, Gaian Tarot
Six of Water, Gaian Tarot

I do love this card. The traditional meaning has always appealed to me. I think Joanna P. Colbert’s interpretation really soars. Most often you see children in the Six of Cups. This is because one primary meaning is reminiscing. So since childhood is often a thing we think on…the Six of Cups shows littles.

But in the Gaian Tarot, Joanna shows her Mermaid sisters gathered in the water. They hold hands becoming a circle of sisters and friends once again. They swim skyclad because when one is that close, clothes become useless.

I’ll be doing some reminiscing this week. You’ll see your Tarotscopes here tomorrow then a week’s worth of posts I’ve titled Revisiting. Each one is one of my recipe posts. I hope you enjoy them.

I’m off to say “I do” to a pretty fabulous man. He’s been my partner and my friend for three years now. We decided we might as well add husband to that mix. It’s been fun being texted as W2B. Makes my heart do one of those slow rolls.

I know we will make some memories this week. I hope you do as well. Remember to find the joy in life especially when it’s hard. Sometimes remembered joy is the only joy to be had but you can have it!

So…seek joy, y’all. Pass it on. I’ll be back next week. And I will catch up on all the three card readings. These workbooks are flying out the door. Are you ready to Create Your Amazing Year? If you are, download the workbook then let me know. I’ll set you up with your free three card reading too.

Kerfufflers Bore Me

The Tree, Gaian TarotToday’s card falls into my “Mom! The Tarot’s mocking me” category again. You see there’s yet another personality kerfuffle in my world. Pretty much the same kerfuffler as always (which makes the kerfuffle super boring to me.) Once again accusations and insinuations are flying. Not one person has come to me to ask me why my name came up. LOL

Which tells me that my pulling the Tree from the Gaian Tarot was the perfect card for today. No one cares. No one gives a rat’s ass what the kerfuffler thinks. And yes, there is a part of me small enough to enjoy the hell out of that. See, I’ve been on the kerfuffler’s hitlist for about…oh, two or three years now.

As a dear friend of mine says, “still viable, fucker.” It’s really amusing to watch the kerfuffler’s antics even as it is sad. The kerfuffler is mentally unstable. Reminds me of a homeless man I saw yesterday. He was rocking out to an unheard beat. I said, “I hope where ever your head is, it’s a beautiful place.”

I wish the same for the kerfuffler…that they find a beautiful place where they don’t have to live such a scared life. It must be awful to fear the entire world is out to get you.

But darlings, the Tree is a reminder to support yourself. This is Joanna Powell Colbert’s vision of the Hanged Man. She hangs from a tree in the asana of the Tree. This pose,Vrkasana, is said to develop concentration, poise and awareness.

The Tree is the Universe’s reminder to me to keep to my own ways, my own path, my own focus. I don’t need to step into the kerfuffle any more than I am right this moment.

I’m far more interested in learning what my word for 2014 will be. It was Galvanize last year. What do you think it will be? Do you have a word for your year to help you focus on your goals?

There’s An App For That

3-gardenerToday’s card is a shout out to a fave Tarot artist of mine. She’s brought her gorgeous deck to the tech side of things. And I couldn’t be happier!

Yep, that’s right, y’all. The Gaian Tarot is now an app from the Fool’s Dog. I’m a huge fan of the Fool’s Dog apps. I have yet to be disappointed by the artwork or the presentation. They are very functional and at 3.99 a pop, completely ownable.

I can now say that I own six copies of the Gaian Tarot. πŸ˜€ Seven if you count the version on my iPad. LOL

It really capture the warmth and sensuality of the Gaian. Get you one. πŸ˜€

And while you are out and about, I’d love it if you would take a look at my Tarot for Writers eCourse. It’s 33 days of “finish the book” helpers. πŸ˜€ And only $33 for the whole thing. You start when you start and finish when you finish. πŸ˜€

Risky Fish + Authentic Lives

Today’s card is one of the scariest cards in the Tarot–to some. It used to terrify me. If I am being honest, it still does at times. But why? Should we live in fear of this card? I’ve pulled this card in readings so many times. And so many times, I’ve seen grown men and women pull back as if they were about to meet the Texas Chainsaw Massacre dude.

aceofwaterToday’s card is one of the scariest cards in the Tarot–to some. It used to terrify me. If I am being honest, it still does at times. But why? Should we live in fear of this card? I’ve pulled this card in readings so many times. And so many times, I’ve seen grown men and women pull back as if they were about to meet the Texas Chainsaw Massacre dude.

I’d laugh if I didn’t intimately understand their reaction. The message of this card is freaking scary, y’all.

Right. The Ace of Water. The erstwhile card of new love, deepening love. Love is what scares so many of us.

And why is that? Because risking your heart is scary. But that fingerling in the foreground? He or she knows that if a risk isn’t taken, growth won’t occur. Did you know that fish tend to grow to the size of their environment? So if that little fish doesn’t move out to the deep, scary unknown, it will never grow.

If we don’t take risks, we won’t grow. My friend Jay Pryor took an amazing risk in his 10/11 video. I’m here to tell you that my mouth fell open when I watched it. Talk about risky!

But one of the reasons I admire this man is his authenticity. He works at living an authentic life. And that ain’t easy kids. It just ain’t easy.

He talked this week about taking risks. I hope you will take two minutes and nineteen seconds to listen to his words –> <--. Then take another set of minutes to journal with today's journal prompt. "What would I lose if I told someone that I loved them? How does avoiding risk limit my growth?" If you like, share with me in the comments what risk you will take. Tarotscopes October 6-12, 2013

Hey y’all! Welcome to this week’s tarotscopes. We are looking at October 6-12, 2013. I advocate for reading your sun, moon and rising signs. Don’t know what they are? Find a great astrologer to help you out. David is one I love as is Corrine Kenner. Yes, they both do tarot too. No, I would not be offended if you got a reading from them. I think it’s a good thing to try out others. You may prefer their style to mine.

  • AQUARIUS SUN Turn on the charm, sweetheart. Your eclectic sense of humor can make connections you didn’t expect. Spotlights on. What will you do now?
  • PISCES FOUR OF WATER STOP! Time to clear out some emotional refuse. Declutter your poor-me closet pronto. Time to reach out and connect with others!
  • ARIES STRENGTH Make a note. Don’t overdo. Focus on controlling your attitude. Channel high energy into productive things. Avoid conflict please.
  • TAURUS TEN OF AIR Learn from others. Take a back seat this week. See what is required then take it on. Time to let another lead. For now.
  • GEMINI NINE OF FIRE Time to get centered. You’ve been running 5 directions and all at 100+ MPH. Stop. Sit. Focus. Slow your roll to find yourself.
  • CANCER NINE OF EARTH An attitude of gratitude will save your sanity this week. Focus RIGHT NOW on what you have. Let go of what you think you need.
  • LEO STAR You can shine. Your goals just need to be polished a bit. Are you still reaching for a goal you already have? Time to check that list, baby.
  • VIRGO CANOE Sometimes learning how to paddle with others is hard. Talk about your direction versus theirs. You can head the same way. Just talk.
  • LIBRA EIGHT OF EARTH Classes? Might not be a bad idea but will you teach or take? You can do either, you know. Celebrate your connections.
  • SCORPIO EXPLORER OF FIRE Push it. Push it real good. Oh yeah! You are going to have a passionate week. Mind your temper please. Some may try to rile you.
  • SAGITTARIUS TWO OF EARTH Sometimes decisions are hard because someone is going to whine. You are the fulcrum so choose for YOU not them this time.
  • CAPRICORN THE TREE Hey! The Universe asks what will you sacrifice NOW to get what you want? Stop filling the time with do-nothings, please.

TarotBlogHop: Lammas 2013

Hi! Yeah, so this is the Lammas 2013 Tarot Blog Hop. I’m the wrangler for this one which means I got to set the topic. Great right? Means I can be way ahead of the crowd. Riiiiiiight.

It’s about 14 hours from the time the hop begins and I’ve written nothing.

3-gardenerOh? The topic? It was “What can I share from my table to enrich my community?” Because this whole Tarot Blog Hop was begun to be a community builder. And, I think, it’s worked rather well. We have seen hops with 20+ every time we’ve done this. I’m very proud of what we’ve built.

To answer my own question, I thought what card seemed to convey this the best. In the blog document, I suggested the Queen of Pentacles. But I think perhaps this is more of an Empress thing for me. She is the Queen of Queens for me with her pregnant belly surrounded by all the generous bounty of the earth. Joanna Powell Colbert captures this perfectly in her Gardener card.

So I shuffled my Gaian Tarot to see what card might answer this. I got the Sun (you may remember that this card showed up for my Litha Tarot Blog Hop too. I think the Sun is stalking me, y’all.

But the flanking cards were the Nine of Air and the Queen of Water. That’s an interesting combination but it gave me a three card spread to share with you.

Lammas Table

1. Why do I come to the community table?
2. What do I need more of on the community table?
3. What do I need less of on the community table?

The Sun is why I come. I come to get joy as much as to spread joy. I’ve found that the more I share how to be a professional joy seeker, but more joy I get back from others who are on the same path. It really does grow exponentially when I seek out those who are determined to bring joy into their world. When you eschew the negativity, it’s just a much nicer place.

guardian-waterThe Guardian (Queen) of Water is what I need more of. Here is the nurturer. The compassionate human who is willing to listen to others. This is about making sure I emotionally connect with my community as well. I’m richer for diving in fully. And I need to ask for that connection when I need it. That’s on me.

The thing I need less of is the Nine of Air. JPC has a bit of a different take with her woman clutching the pole here. I see this card as my reminder not to be a tail chaser (or a tale chaser.) I have to let go of my anxieties and fears about not being enough. I need to stop judging myself based on what others say or do. It’s a very hard thing to do but I need to let go and relax a bit more.

So what about you? We all enrich our community in myriad ways. Each of us brings something the other needs. Thank you for being a part of my community. I’m blessed by that connection.nine-air

Arwen Gets Political–Again

five-fireToday’s card is in honor of #standwithwendy, #sb5 and the fall of section 3 of DOMA. Many things went right yesterday even as others went wrong. Me? I got fired up, y’all. I’m talking gloves off, finger up, head wagging fired up about a representative here in Texas. But first, let’s talk about the Five of Fire from the Gaian Tarot.

Here we see a man breathing fire. He’s doing it intentionally. He knows how to invigorate those watching. He knows how to put forth a call to action that can’t be missed. He is breathing fire.

In many decks, this card is depicted as the competition card. You will see figures in some field competition with long staves. But Joanna Powell Colbert re-interprets that into this solo man who is so intently focusing his passion.

Now breathing fire in any sense can be dangerous. I was breathing fire last night on my FB page. I was fired up about Wendy Davis’ amazing filibuster but I was incensed over David H. Dewhurst (R. Houston)’s idiocy. Among other things he said on his Twitter feed: “We will not stand for mob-rule politics in TX! The fight for what’s right resumes July 1st. #txlege #specialsession” To which I said, ‘Bring it.’

And I went off, y’all. I posted a picture of myself with “Operation Oh Hell No 2013 Has Commenced” along with pointedly sharp statements. Was I being a positive, joy-seeker then?

Welllllllllllll, that probably depends upon whom you ask. GOP fans would probably think I might want to sit down and shut up. Democrat fans might say the opposite.

But the lesson? Targeted spewing works best. If you must spew, and baby, I had to last night, then choose to do it where you can be supported or at least where you won’t be attacked for your views. Let it out. Don’t keep the heat internal like that.

When’s the last time you needed to let off steam? How did you do it?

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on!
