Top Ten Reasons NOT To Get A Tarot Reading

My top 10 reasons NOT to get a #tarot reading include a short dude with a big knife.

These are in no particular order. I thought it might be fun to do a top ten list. So here are my top ten reasons why you should not get a reading.

1. My doctor said I have “X”. I just wanted to get a second opinion.

Your Tarot consultant is not your medical professional unless they have a medical degree. Any Tarot professional who makes medical diagnoses without referring you to a doctor is, in my not so humble opinion, unethical.

Using divination alone to diagnose and treat illness is wrong. I actually will not do health readings. I will read the cards if a health issue comes up, but the question asked cannot be about health.

2. Does she/he love me?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the answer is in the question most of the time when you ask a yes or no question. This one tells me that you already aren’t sure so something is wrong somewhere.

Better to ask “What do I need to know about my current relationship?” That way you are going to get a more productive answer.

3. Is she/he having an affair?

First, see question two. Second, this question asks me to spy. I’m a Tarot consultant not a private investigator, y’all. ๐Ÿ˜€

4. Will I find a job?

Now, I am happy to do consultations on “what is the best job” or “where should I look for employment” but the yes/no of this question makes it one not to ask. Again, the question tells me that my seeker feels very insecure. That’s okay! We all feel insecure. But in this case, rephrasing the question helps.

5. Will they ask me to marry them?

This is a combination of two and three because it shows the questioner isn’t sure of their partner. Plus? It’s asking me to spy on someone again.

6. Will I die?

Yes. You will die. I will die. We will all die. It’s a fact of life. I won’t answer this one. And, yes, I’ve had people ask this.

7. Will my football team win?

This one is a throw-away question. I mean I could certainly answer it and charge you for it. However, we are talking about an event where so many others are involved. I believe we all have free choice. What the cards say today could be changed by one team member’s choice tomorrow.

8. Which lover should I choose?

Here’s one I’ve done a lot of readings on. Yet I list it on my list of questions not to ask. What the hell, Arwen?

It goes back to my feeling of free will. I get a bit anxious telling someone to dump person A for person B. What if B shapes up down the road? LOL the trials and tribulations of a Pisces Tarot consultant.

9. What advice does my dearly departed have for me?

This one feels invasive to me. Now don’t read me wrong here. I can and do read for the dead. All. The. Time. They show up unasked, uncalled, and sometimes unwanted when I read. I’ve had grandfathers waving butcher knives and people not even related to my querent show up. Inevitably there’s a message, but can you imagine how “entertaining” it is to ask someone, “So, do you know a short dude in an apron who might be mad at you? He’s waving a really big knife.”

Yeah. That.

10. What are the winning lottery numbers?

Darlings, if I knew that, I’d be doing readings from a beach on Fiji. When I felt like it. ๐Ÿ˜€

Today’s affirmation:

I am in control of my own life. I make the best possible choices for my future self. I accept that I am here and now in this moment. I trust in the Universe to lead me forward. I breathe in joy. I exhale doubt. I am the captain of my own fate. Loved and loving, I love each of you.

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on!

By the way, do you have any good reasons NOT to get a reading that I left out? Let me know in the comments.

Snakebites & Love

What about you? What do you see in this card? Why do you think the snake bites one and not the other?

Deviant Moon Borderless Lovers
Deviant Moon Borderless

Today’s card is a reminder that there is balance in love. This deck intrigues me a lot. I don’t read with it very often but just got a copy of it for review. It’s the borderless version of the Deviant Moon Tarot from U.S. Games. So much is happening here.

The two lovers are entwined. The Moon shines a dedicated beam down to them. A snake chomps on the male figure’s left leg. Is that to envenomate or is it to warn or maybe it is to transform?

Her head is back in what looks like ecstasy to me. His eyes are wide open where as hers are shut. She is trusting that he will hold her and not drop her.

In some ways this card is super disturbing to me. It reminds me of all the times I’ve trusted someone not to drop me. Of all the times I’ve gone into a relationship blind.

But why does the snake bite him and not her?

In my current relationship, I feel that I do have my eyes open. We have known one another for three years. We’ve had love, fights, sickness, joy…and so much more. So we decided to get married since neither of us could see it going any where else. Not so romantic as it might have been if we were in our twenties…grin. But far less drama!

So I’ll take this balanced lovers card as a reminder that trust and seeing things for what they are are the important messages for today.

What about you? What do you see in this card? Why do you think the snake bites one and not the other?

Would You Hex Someone?

DeviantMoon_3WandsToday’s card is from a deck that has taken me some getting used to. This is routinely the most popular deck in many Tarot groups. It reminds me that for my projects to take root and to flourish, I have to put myself into them.

Traditionally the Three of Wands shows a figure watching three ships in a harbor. But Patrick Valenza shows his Deviant Moon character attached literally at the umbilical cord. She contemplates the three growing things with a serious demeanor. I see the fierce, almost grotesque, fish cape as being her emotional protectiveness of these tender plants. The moon lends a breath, a light, a glow? highlighting the intention.

As a witch, I know that what spells I cast, I tie myself in to. It is for that reason that I rarely do bindings etc. If I dislike a person enough to bind them away from myself, the very act of engaging on that energetic level ties me to them. So it’s rare for me to do that type of magic. I prefer the magic of ignoring them–what I think of as Arwen’s Not-So-Amish Shunning. I shut them out.

I’ve learned that will wither the connection faster than any binding or mirror box. I don’t read them. I don’t listen to them. I don’t “run by their Facebook page just to see if they are talking about me.” None of that. Period.

For me, I’d rather put my energy into projects that bring joy and growth to my world.

Simply put….ain’t nobody got time for that. ๐Ÿ˜€

What about you? Are there people and projects you could be shunning (really shunning not talk about it all the time shunning, lol)? Are there people and projects you could be giving your energy to that will give back?

I’m going to challenge you to take three minutes today. That’s right…180 seconds. Think about someone who drains you. Someone you’ve tried to let go of.

Now let go. Replace that thought with something affirming. Move on, darlings.

What will you let go of today?

Midnight, People & Flipping Out

It’s midnight. You need to talk to someone. Who can you text to see if they are awake? Who do you KNOW who won’t flip out because you woke them up?

Today’s card is from one of the all-time best #Tarot decks according to Aeclectic. After yesterday’s calling out of the worst critics and harshest judges, I wanted to show you something more cheerful.

Did you know you have people? I mean like “these are my peeps” people that you can count on when the chips are down? It’s true! Do the following reality check.

It’s midnight. You need to talk to someone. Who can you text to see if they are awake? Who do you KNOW who won’t flip out because you woke them up?

Yeah. Them. They are your peeps, your posse, your entourage.

And we all have them. Just like you see in this card. Even though the central figure is the big one, she needs the company of friends. She’s free to dance her dance, sing her song, be her self because she has people.

So do you. And you are someone’s “people” too. So why not seek some joy today by dropping those people a line. Just tell them you are joy-filled and grateful that they are in your life.

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.
