Blank Walls

Discussion of the Ace of Pentacles from the Crystal Visions Tarot

[Tweet “What is the potential of a blank wall?”]

Crystal Visions Tarot Ace of Pentacles
Crystal Visions Tarot

Today’s card reminds me of empty spaces. It makes me think of what is coming to those empty spaces. I guess in a way this is the potential of a blank wall.

Here we see the Ace of Pentacles from the Crystal Visions Tarot by Jennifer Galasso. And yes, that is the Stevie Nicks song she is referring to.

A pentacle is woven between two trees with vines growing around it. Beneath it are crystals, gems and more of the vine. It is what is beneath that calls to me in this picture. The potential of the crystals that grow there.

I must tell you that I’ve had and used this deck since it came out. I’ve just now seen two women in this deck. Ha! Tarot never fails to surprise me.

So here’s to growth and empty spaces and surprises. Just like an empty wall in a home, this card waits to be filled. It’s an offering to us…a promise of good things to come.

Today’s affirmation:

I am open to abundance. I walk into prosperity. I fill up my world with beauty and joy. I am strong. I am light. I am love. Loved and loving, I love each of you.

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.

Of Gods And Aces

Of Gods And Aces — A god, an ace and a bone walk into a bar. What’s next?

The Wooden Tarot Ace of Bones
The Wooden Tarot

#affirmation Sticking with the Wooden Tarot, today’s card is another of the ones that gives me pause. Actually it is one of four that give me pause for the same reason.

Aces, to me, are seed energy. They are the potential of the suit. A.L. Swartz has chosen to rename the aces to god. So we have the God of Bones today rather than the Ace.

Of course, as I write it out, as usual I come to an understanding. The all seeing eye in the triangle (a nod to the Illuminati I think) floats above a generic figure where hands float with a bone between them.

Seed energy. Beginnings. Potentials. This is the Earth suit in this deck. I would call it Coins or Pentacles in a more traditional deck.

I am reminded of the Christian story about God creating Eve from Adam’s rib. While that’s not a rib bone (unless I miss my guess), there is a magic waiting to happen here.

So many cultures use bones. My friend Fiona Robinson at Open Roads Coaching does bone readings even today.

Okay, A.L., I think I understand why gods are aces in your deck. Well played, sir. Well played indeed.

Today’s affirmation:

I am potential. I am possibility. I am the beginning of my own next great event. I breathe in ability. I breathe out creativity. I begin again today. Loved and loving, I love each of you.

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.

Music, Boundaries and Petunias

Today’s card is a reminder that I create my own music.

Paulina Tarot Ace of Pentacles

Boundaries and borders can be scary things. We set them but then allow others to wander all over them–trampling our petunias as it were. I’m better these days about being firm about protecting what’s important to me. One of those things is my right to allow and or disallow those who bring disharmony into my world.

Every orchestra has discordance. It is what makes a song interesting. But no conductor will allow another conductor to change the way he or she conducts. It is, after all, their interpretation.

I’ve run headlong into an interpretation I do not agree with but I do like the conductor. So for now, I will play as part of that orchestra. When the song is done, I will quietly pack and leave.

This Ace of Pentacles from the amazing Paulina Tarot (U.S. Games) reminds me to focus on my own notes for now.

Today I play for me. Today I reset my personal boundaries. Today I want to be at peace with my own choices. I set fences to keep things in as well as out. I am the conductor of my own song. Loved and loving, I love each of you.

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.

Why Hula Hoops Beat Procrastination

Thoughts on hula hoops helping beat a really bad habit.

Crystal Visions Tarot Ace of Pentacles
Crystal Visions Tarot

Today’s card reminds me that hula hoops are an important metaphor in my life. This goes back to something my sister told me. I can’t remember who told her but the saying goes like this.

I can only control what is in my own hula hoop.

So stand up. Now hold your arms out as if you were holding a hula hoop about yourself. Swing your arms to the front and back and to the sides. Get a feel for how much space that is.

You control everything inside that hula hoop area. It’s all yours. You are mistress or master of your domain. Anyone inside that circumference must bow to your wishes.

Anything outside of that circumference?

Repeat after me…not my circus, not my monekys.

If we all focused less on the trauma-drama of others, how much happier we would be. If we simply provided space to listen them and let go of trying to fix them, we could get to the real meat of our day.

Our own stuff.

Yep, it’s a really highly developed procrastination technique. The more I can worry about your shit, the less I have to work on my own.

[Tweet “So which will it be today? Useless worry or meaningful work? It’s your choice.”]

Today I focus on my own needs. Today I listen to others and let go of any misguided notion of fixing them. I am in charge of my own experience. I can only control what is in my own hula hoop. Loved and loving, I love each of you.

Fascinators, Growth + Risks

The message I’m told to deliver today is a simple one.

CatPeople_1PentaclesToday’s card makes me happy. I particularly like the headpiece the woman is wearing, don’t you? I’ve had a hat just like that in fact. Not that color, but the same pose. I can see why this might be called a fascinator.

The message I’m told to deliver today is a simple one.

Get ready for big growth.

Today I am open to opportunity. Today I place myself on the outer edges of the wheel so I can reach out. I will take risks so that I may grow. I will stretch my boundaries. Loved and loving, I love each of you.

Your journal prompt today is also simple. “What does real growth look like in my life?”

Celebrate What You Don’t Have?

Today’s card reminds me that my attitude can absolutely affect my pocketbook. I drew two cards at random from Roxi Sim’s gorgeous, colorful Pearls of Wisdom Tarot. I meant to pull one, but two insisted on coming out so two is what I’m working with.

I was struck by the differences in these two cards. In the Ace, she is celebrating all the things abundance CAN bring. Not has. Can. This is a card of potential, you see. It’s the beginning of what money can do. And not just money, but for this post, I’m going to stick with that.

Then move your eyes to the next card. Dying plants in the upper corners. A waning moon in the sky. A dark closed in room where two people fail to appreciate what they do have as they mourn what they don’t.

PearlsofWisdom_1Pent5Pent

Look at these cards again. In the Ace, all of the things are in the border. They aren’t hers yet. They aren’t real. They are in the works. They are possibilities. Her face is open. She is smiling. She is reaching up to the pentacle above her head knowing that the light flowing from both sides is her path to prosperity. All she has to do is walk it and believe in it.

The Five of Pentacles is so different. There’s food on the table (pears). There’s beautiful flowers (daisies). There’s even money and jewelery. He even has a pearl earring!

But there’s no joy.

Why is that? Is this card the “keeping up with the Joneses” card? I mean they both have clothes and a roof over their head. Sure, the candle is nearly out. The pearls show some missing so maybe they had to be spent? The money bags are nearly empty. But they are so closed off in this image. What can flow in or out when they are so closed?

I have this in my own life sometimes, don’t you? Days where I look at my bills in comparison to my bank account. Days where I wonder how I will make it to work because the E on my gas gauge looks like a T-Rex ready to take me down.

I have to go back to a saying a learned from my friend, Ruth Glendinning.

I walk in abundance.

Abundance isn’t necessarily cash in hand, darlings. It’s just having enough of what i need with some left over to share. And I do share. I give where I can including folks standing on the corner. No, I don’t want to get in a discussion about whether or not they “deserve” my help. Everyone deserves help–from Bill Gates on down. What that help looks like may vary of course. GRIN!

So here’s a challenge for you today. Take three minutes. Yes, 180 precious seconds of your day. Make a list of what you have. Not of what you want. Of what you have.

  • Food in the fridge?
  • Pets on the couch?
  • Books to read?
  • A TV to watch?
  • A computer to read this on?
  • Friends who make you laugh?

You feel me? Make a list of what you have. Call it “My Abundance List” and add to it every day. You will be surprised how abundant you can feel when you realize you have a toilet bowl plunger when you need one. 😀

Seek joy, y’all. Walk in abundance. Pass it on.

How Selfless Do You Have To Be?

ZT56_6Today’s card is from one of those decks that I don’t have but think I might like…just for the sake of curiosity, you know. It’s only 56 cards so I believe it to be only the minor arcana. A traditional Tarot deck has 78 cards with 22 of those being the Major Arcana.

I do love the message on this. “This card greatly improves the fortune of the cards around it.” How selfless is that? It isn’t focused on what it can get but rather how it can help those other poor little cards around it.

No, I’m not being sarcastic although it might sound like it. I think it’s a pretty cool setting to be on. Instead of the Gimme cycle or the How can I spin this for me cycle, we have a card that improves the fortunes of others.

The hand holding the pentagram is very Rider-Waite-Smith. I love fullness of the clouds around the wrist as well. Beneath that is the very traditional gateway of green and flowers symbolizing growth. Beyond is a mountain promising all sorts of good things.

For your 180 seconds today will you be a promoter of someone else? Will you step aside from your own spotlight to shine it on another? Who do you know that might deserve a shout out? Feel free to list them here and tell us why.

While we may not greatly improve their fortune, I’ll bet we can at least increase the attention they get. And who doesn’t love that? An unexpected pat on the back is especially sweet.

That’s all I’m asking of you today. Just three minutes telling someone else about someone else.

Wealth, Connections & Secrets

How much joy can one life generate? This Ace of Pentacles reminds me that each piece is connected to the other until they circle back to form a perfect hula hoop for me to dance within.

Today’s card is a reminder to me of how connected things are in my life. I do a JoyPatrolAlert in the late afternoon/early evening. I did today’s BEFORE looking at the card I drew from the Pearls Of Wisdom Tarot. I laughed. Check back this evening and let me know if you can figure out why I laughed.

Here we see the Ace of Pentacles embodied by a beautiful priestess. She holds the coin high over her head. It’s decorated by a Celtic knotwork. The sides of the card form a doorway. Everything that could make her a wealthy woman is before her. Keys to the business. Jewelry. Even a musical instrument should she just want to play a happy tune.

This is my reminder that the sleeping cats on my table (yes,I know) are connected to the dogs piled up under the blanket on the couch. The sweet smell of baked yams connects me to my memories of so many holiday gatherings that my mind boggles. I am 51 years old. If I have been to just the big holidays with family and/or friends, I’ve still celebrated over 150 times.

That’s a lot of joy. And I’m not counting birthdays or weddings or any other rites of passage where I’ve gathered with those I love.

How much joy can one life generate? This Ace of Pentacles reminds me that each piece is connected to the other until they circle back to form a perfect hula hoop for me to dance within.

Do you follow? As she passes through the door, those ribbons of light and color stream behind her. She is the embodiment of the suit of Earth–community, family, friends. Wealth isn’t just the things around the doorway. Wealth is her and who she attracts to her.

Y’all make me the wealthiest woman in the world. Thank you for sharing this with me.

Remind yourself, when you feel disconnected or alone, that you aren’t. We are here for one another. That’s one of the secrets of the Universe.

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.
