Deck Review: Fantastical Creatures Tarot

Fantastical Creatures Tarot

Lisa Hunt & DJ Conway

US Games

2007

Another creation from a solid tarot team is the Fantastical Creatures Tarot.  From the obvious power of the Winged Lion standing as the Sun to the delicate fairy who sit by the Ace of Cups, these cards are mesmerizing.

Hunt’s artwork has long been a favorite of mine. She has a way of imbuing her art with intricate images that demand your attention. You may know her as the artist of the Celtic Dragons Tarot or the Animals Divine. She is well known in the Tarot world for good reason.

On the Fantastical Creatures Tarot website, Lisa (who holds a tabby who must have been the model for the Magician) says of painting this lovely watercolor deck: Continue reading “Deck Review: Fantastical Creatures Tarot”

Deck Review: Faerie Tarot

Faerie Tarot
Faerie Tarot

The lovely, whimsical Faerie Tarot was published June 2008 by US Games. Author and artist, Nathalie Hertz has outdone herself this time. I recently reviewed her Vampire Tarot which was an intriguing deck that I didn’t think would find huge popularity because of the theme. However this deck should find a very different reception.

Let me start with saying that I don’t like Continue reading “Deck Review: Faerie Tarot”

DECK REVIEW: Tarot Of A Moon Garden

Come journey to the moon with me. I have a passion for dragonflies. Go ahead. Make the “wow, I never knew” remarks. Get them all out of your system. I’ll wait.

Done? Good! Now back to my dragonflies. I was searching for a tarot deck that had dragonflies. I got a Google hit on something called Tarot of a Moon Garden. And then I couldn’t find the darn thing! I searched all over. Finally, I found it and pounced on it. Then of course, I decided to review it!
My first view of this deck was of the Fool. And my first impression was “Awww, they could have done so much more with the color.” Continue reading “DECK REVIEW: Tarot Of A Moon Garden”

DECK REVIEW: The Mystic Dreamer Tarot

The Fool Mystic Dreamer TarotMystic Dreamer Tarot, by Heidi Darras

The Dreamer’s Journal, by Barbara Moore

Llewellyn Worldwide, September 2008

ISBN 9780738714363

From the soft-sponged pink of the box to the muted quiet, almost diffident, cards, the Mystic Dreamer Tarot is a very feminine deck. On my first pass through this Tarot deck from Llewellyn, I was struck by all the female faces gazing back at me. The second time through, I focused on Continue reading “DECK REVIEW: The Mystic Dreamer Tarot”

DECK REVIEW: The Whispering Tarot By Elizabeth Hazel

High Priestess Whispering Tarot
This poker-sized deck is a limited-edition from Tarot and Astrology expert, Elizabeth Hazel. Each of the first 1000 decks (or thereabouts because the postal service was not kind to Hazel and damaged boxes) is signed and numbered. I have #340. The back is an elegant design reminiscent of Celtic knotwork. The purple and green-gold are a very soothing combination. Continue reading “DECK REVIEW: The Whispering Tarot By Elizabeth Hazel”

DECK REVIEW: Whispering Tarot by Elizabeth Hazel

The Whispering Tarot Wheel Of Fortune
I just got notification of the Summer 2008 American Tarot Association’s Quarterly Journal. No one was happier than I when Liz Hazel agreed to take this project off my hands. While I enjoyed gathering the articles, Liz has transformed this members-only publication into a classy, quality production. You could tell with her first offering that she was aiming for a magazine style that would give experienced and beginning readers in-depth information.

When I opened up my QJ, I saw Continue reading “DECK REVIEW: Whispering Tarot by Elizabeth Hazel”
