What Will You Hear Today?

Will you give your Higher Power just three minutes of attention? A mere 180 seconds?

WakingTheWildSpirit_2AirToday’s card brings me such joy. The elfin grin. The open mouths. The patient parent. All combined in Poppy Palin’s fanciful world of the Waking The Wild Spirit Tarot. It’s a joy.

It reminds me that sometimes we need to watch for signs. They really are everywhere. No, I’m not talking about that stop sign I almost ran yesterday.

I mean the things we need to pay attention to–listen for. When we get quiet with ourselves, then we can hear and learn. Have you ever actually heard baby birds in nest? Ever followed the sound of a babbling brook to find a quiet stream of contemplation?

How often do you turn off everything and sit in quiet?

I’ll tell y’all a secret.

I am never in silence.

Never.

I normally have the TV off unless I’m looking at it. I don’t run the radio much at all.

But it’s never utterly quiet.

I have tinnitis. Constant crickets in my cranium. Right now all I have on in my home is a ceiling fan. And I hear a consistent whining that follows me everywhere.

It’s one of the Suckies of my life.

So I have to really focus when I’m out listening for the small sounds. I actually can cover one ear and not hear certain pitches. This is useful sometimes…wicked grin. I can tune high pitched complainers out. snort

I compensate by sight. Which is really funny when you consider that I don’t have good eyesight either. But I see things. I recognize birds at a distance where others don’t. I’m constantly being told, “How did you see that?”

All I can answer is, “I paid attention.”

How will you pay attention today? What signs will you see? Write them down. See which ones keep coming up. What words or phrases or thoughts continually turn up in a pattern for you?

That’s the Universe (my word for the Higher Power) communicating with you.

Will you give your Higher Power just three minutes of attention? A mere 180 seconds?

By the way? Consider what happens when you turn 180 degrees.

  1. I can relate, I have that shushing sound in my ears too. Lovely doctor about 8 years ago said my brain would eventually tune it out, still waiting on that – LOL. I love that card it is so very cute and makes me smile. I miss so many small things and feelings, I really have to focus and go with it and not shove it down.
    Hugs and sparkles

  2. I have the grinding gear syndrome too…sometimes i wonder if anyone else can hear it. Once I asked my daughter to repeat something I thought she said. Her comment was “The voices are loud today, hmmm?”

I wonder what those voices we are hearing inside our heads are trying to say?

  3. Funny how this ties in with what happened to me today.
Just earlier on my lunch break I was walking and in my mind I made a request that I strengthen the connection with my spirit guides. A few minutes later I overheard two women I passed by on the street talking, and the part of the sentence was “no, it’s celestite, the baby blue one”. Well, sure, I have a celestite that I forgot to use for a while… I got the message! πŸ˜‰
I mostly pay attention to things I see too, but my friend always gets messages through songs on the radio. It’s hilarious how a silly love song can sound totally profound in the context of your current life situation.

  4. I love how you turn your tinnitus into an advantage. Tuning out high-pitched whiners – *giggle*
Myself, I try to sharpen my senses and to do that I need to pay attention the way you describe. It’s amazing what you can see, and smell, and feel when your entire awareness is focused on that one sense.

  5. You changed your profile pic above… cute!

I had a dream last night about two of my sisters. It was vivid and it made me feel that I should call one of them and just see what’s going on. I consider dreams one way of getting messages, especially since I don’t remember most dreams.

    1. Thank you, Amy. I finally took the time to find a plug-in for that. πŸ˜€ No more alien green guy! I don’t remember my dreams either! Hope it was a good call.

  6. I’m sorry you’re challenged with the tinnitis which I’m sure must be terribly annoying, but I love how you’ve let it deepen your attention skills – yay you!

I’m always saying how blessed I feel to live in such a sign-filled world. It’s like being surrounded with the language of Spirit, and always beng invited into the conversation.

Delightful card today as well. I’m enjoying discovering new-to-me decks – thank you!

  7. I read this earlier today, went off to work on an edit, and came back to leave a comment. I love noise, I love silence, I hate repetitive whispery sounds. You have my sympathy. I hope your hearing adjusts to rid you of this burden. It seems as if you are coping with it. I’m not sure I could.

  8. I’m a couple of days late reading this, and yet I’m reading it right on time, as my daily draw was also about paying attention to even the smallest things πŸ™‚ Lovely post, Arwen!

  9. It’s very rare for me to turn everything off because I am a Virtual Assistant and so much that I do is online! However, I do know the power of connecting to your higher self or the universe – I smiled reading your blog recognising my own adventures when the signs have appeared because I slowed down enough to pay attention to them lol! Thanks for sharing your story πŸ™‚

  10. I’m so sorry about your tinnitis and I’m glad to hear you’ve found the gift of seeing things others aren’t so quick to see πŸ™‚ I discovered a new-found passion for birds this past year and would love to be with you and your quick sight πŸ™‚ Total silence…I do it more and more and it’s still a challenge. I hope one day it will be easy!
