What do I need to know about for tonight?

This was my focus. I tried to focus on what do I need to know for the day, but since I’m at work for eight hours, I pretty much know what the deal will be here. I don’t know what I need to focus on for this evening.

Why am I so interested in this evening? It’s my first Austin tarot reading gig. As in, I got called because of my business on Yelp and booked for doing readings at a local bar. I was so tickled to chat with the bar manager that I forgot to ask her where she found me. I texted her later. I hz mad marketing skillz!

I’ve done this sort of thing before so that’s not the issue. The issue is my social anxiety. We will play the Avoidance Game around the fact that my question is actually DIVINATION–oh the horror. 😀

WHAT? You didn’t know? Sad but true. I’m socially awkward–inept even at times. I’m that girl that tries to hard to fit in. Well, grin, used to be. I still feel weird about going to new places. I just have to suck it up. Force myself to go inside even if I’m alone. I know. I don’t write like I’m that girl, but inside, SHE LIVES!!!

So the card I drew is the Nine of Fire. It shows a guy all serene and chit, man. I had to laugh. It’s such a simple answer. I need to be focused on my own balance so I can offer decent bar readings. And I do make a difference between a bar reading and a full Tarot consultation.

For me, a bar reading is a down and dirty three card slapdown. It’s not a spread. It’s a Tarot Slapdown. I slap the cards down. I deliver the meanings I get from the cards. It’s a very intuitive reading for me. I go right from the gut. When I do a consultation, the pace is slower. I’m there to listen. To console or to cajole as the case may be. It’s interactive. I am not on a time limit. At a bar situation, I’m trying to read for folks who may or may not be happier than normal. Their blood levels may be more than the average bear. I also generally have a line or a waiting list.

Tonight I have about an hour to do however many readings I can. I suspect I’ll do 5-10. Then Monday night I’ll be there for a much longer event so I should be able to do a few more.

My shadow card here is the 10 of Earth. I see this as a reminder to continue to move into my community even when it’s a bit scary. Joanna points to this card as a reminder that we are to pass our wisdom along. This may be associated with my fears about teaching face-to-face classes and doing in-person Tarot mentoring. Am I wise enough to have something to pass on? I think that’s a fear many face. And those that don’t? Grin. Perhaps they should. There’s a saying among the Wiccans I know…The person who wants to be High Priestess/Priest shouldn’t be chosen.

So why am I nattering on about the 10 of Earth and the 9 of Fire so much? Well, you see…I’ve done something a bit crazy. I’ve joined with two other people to rent an office. It’s actually something I’ve wanted to do for quite some time but have never taken that Fool’s Leap. The Universe is delivering some unexpected blessings, that’s for sure.
