Whale Watching, The Monterey Trip pt 1

So the trip was a blast and a success! Here is my first attempt at a photo diary!

Friday night was a bit of a drag because my flight was severely delayed out of Las Vegas. I did not leave Las Vegas until I was supposed to be landing in San Jose! My date with the vivacious Bubblin’ did not happen. SEVERE POUT! But Angie aka Clover picked Cai and I up and off to Monterey we went.

We hit the wharf and had clam chowder in bread bowls. Oh my yummy! 😀

Then we met Goofy at his apartment and visited for a bit and then fell over to sleep.

We got up in the morning and went on the whale trip!

On the way out we saw some sea lions.

This guy was there when we got back too! Goofy took this one with his brand new Nikon D40.

Here are a pair of sea lions who were part of a much larger group of sea lions. Both harbor seals and sea lions can be found here. We saw a seal swimming the night before but didn’t have our cameras out. Goofy took this one with his brand new Nikon D40.

Then we saw our first whales! This is a pod of three humpbacks. One of them was named “Cut Fin” and the captain, Nancy Black, said she hadn’t seen this whale in a few months so she was pleased to see him/her. Goofy took this one with his brand new Nikon D40.

Next we ran into a huge feeding aggregation of sea lions. They dive as one and come up as one as they herd the fish. This shot is such a good shot! Goofy took this one with his brand new Nikon D40.

While out we saw some more whales (all humpbacks) and two extremely fast Dall’s Porpoises who were faster than the camera man! The trip was a huge success. The five hours was a bit long and everyone who did not take Dramamine did get ill! Poor Angie succumbed to the side effects of the medicine and slept for a large portion of the trip.

When we landed, we walked to a nearby restaurant called “Isabella’s” and had a lovely lunch! No pictures, sorry! Then we went back to Goofy’s where I am the only one who successfully napped!

Then we met several friends for dinner at the Cheesecake Factory in Santa Clara. Much fun was had by all! Boo couldn’t join us at the next stop. Sad Face! We liked Boo alot! But didn’t get a group shot at the restaurant, darn it!

Oh the Winchester House! Wow! I’ll post about that in the next entry! Maybe tomorrow because I’m a tired puss right now!
