POEM: Latin Tattoos

Waste Triumph Log Line Nature Demand Display Arch Gin

Latin Tattoos

To log that triumph
He claimed ancient rites
Tattooed a thin red line
Dissected the arch of my heart
Carefully cut each word
“Si vis amari, ama”
What a waste that was
My nature to believe
That he would prefer
My fine Irish whiskey
Over cheap whore gin
And his dismayed reaction
To my display of despair
Did demand a smile
Where sobs had been
How was he to know
I’d believed
That forever meant
Something more
Permanent than
A latin tattoo
