I learned a lot from late night television in the early 80’s. Sounds crazy, but it’s true. I was something of a night owl back then. I would turn on the TV at 2 or 3 in the morning.
One night there was this crazy old musical about some gay men. I didn’t have a VCR (honestly can’t remember if they were in use then or not.) The movie lifted me up but one song stood out.
It’s remained as one of my very favorite songs of all time. The message is what keeps it in my heart. A good thirty years later, the theme of this song remains an anthem for me.
From the opening lines:
I am what I am. I am my own special creation. So come take a look. Give me the hook or the ovation.
And then one of my favorite lines:
[Tweet “I’ve got one life no return no deposit.”]
Here is George Hearn singing “I Am What I Am” from the amazing show, La Cage Aux Folles.
In a geeeeee, that’s a coincidence, it occurs to me that Nathan Lane did NOT sing this in The Birdcage which was the most recent version of La Cage. And his co-star was Mr. Robin Williams.
So that’s an interesting way to round out my week.
And for today’s affirmation? Yeah, you guessed it:
I am what I am. I am my own special creation. I’ve got one life so I will live it to my own expectations. Because I am loved, I love. Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.
The card is from Witchlings by Paulina Cassidy (US Games)
I believe Popeye also said ‘I yam what I yam.” One of favorite TV shows, who also starred Robin Williams in the movie.
It’s like he’s haunting us. 😀
I think we can learn a lot from television, all sorts about life in general, and what makes people tick in particular. Loved reading about your affirmation!
Thanks, Andrea. I don’t do as much TV as I used to but I still have “my shows”. LOL
I love that the card combines creativity and courage 🙂 Yes, one life to live, so follow your joy!
I really adore this oracle from Paulina Cassidy!
Love this! I am very careful around my ‘I ams’ these days because I realise how powerful these statements are. Thank you.
Harriet, isn’t that right! I am stupid is just as powerful as I am creative.
