Character Reading: Jake Colder (Fictional Character)

guardianangelToday I do a reading for Jake Colder. He’s the hero of Lise Fuller’s latest, Guardian Angel. I found Jake to be endearing in his need to protect. I think you will too. Don’t miss the contest from Lise at the bottom of the reading!

Guardian Angel
Lise Fuller

Someone needed to protect her…

With her partner dead and his dangerous associates after her, fear made Marie run—and drove her right into the arms of Jake Colder, the sheriff of the small town where she sought refuge. The sexual attraction between them is instant and intense, but even the taste of heated nights spent with Jake’s gorgeous hard body wrapped around her isn’t enough to let Marie relax her guard. If Jake knew what she’d done, he’d arrest her, exposing her to the deadly greed of the men who pursued. Still, as hard as she tries to stay away from the hunky sheriff, some inexplicable force keeps pulling them back together.

And that someone was Jake.

Jake knew Marie needed his protection. He’d been warned by the ghost of his great-great-grandfather, the family guardian for over a century. Whatever the trouble was, there was one thing he was sure of—he wanted Marie in his life, in his bed, forever, and no one was going to hurt her on his watch.

Character Reading for Jake Colder
DOB: August 20, 1973
AUTHOR: Lise Fuller
GENRE: Romantic Suspense
DECK USED: World Spirit Tarot

1. How do you see the people around you?

Jake, here is the Empress card. She is the one who takes care of others. I think you see yourself in the role of caretaker and protector. You hold yourself back a bit because you actually have more of an emotional response than you like. empress

It is almost as if you must protect them from afar and not let them know the real you. The Empress is a card of earthy practicality as well so you may do this in order to protect them. Sort of like a go-between so that the only one in danger really is you.

You see people as a way to get physical comfort from as well but there seems to be again this emotional detachment here. Did you lose your mother and this is why you feel you need to take care of others? Were you thrown into a parenting or caretaking role early in life?

Jake’s response: Well, I take care of people because that’s my job, and maybe it’s my job because it’s what I do. Yeah, I lost my parents at a young age—old enough to know them but too young to manage on my own. I missed having them. As to your question, I’ve had to take care of Jesse by myself after my first wife left. Yeah, that hurt but I realize now she wasn’t the woman I thought she was. And well, you know about Gramps, the ghost of my great, great grandfather, being more of a Dad to me than anyone else. Even though he’s been the pain of my existence, I admire him. He was a soldier, a man who fiercely loved one woman and swore to protect her and others. Guess I’m more like him than I care to realize.

2. How are you seen by the people around you?

Others see you as an answer to their prayers. They put a lot of faith in you and may treat you as out of their reach. The Ace of Cups says they see you as someone to trust their emotional selves too.

There is also an unfortunate tendency for others to fall into lust with you and they imagine it is love. I would guess that you have been hurt by that because you are not the hero they think you are.

The Ace of Cups is the card of emotional beginnings. Do you some how give others new emotional starts? Like a Witness protection or something?1_cups1

Response: I’ve had a lot of ladies fall in lust with me based on how they perceive my physical image and what they want. Think that was part of the problem with my first wife.Don’t ask me. I don’t understand it. I’m not a woman but even though I may have slaked a need or two on a few—a mutual thing of course, it burns me when a woman who’s supposed to be in a committed relationship comes onto me. However, what I want—hell, what I’ve needed is someone who understands Jesse and the ranch are my world. It’s a package deal, all or nothing. Then, of course, there’s my job which can take me away at times when a woman would normally have her man around to protect her like in times of bad weather and storms, and it does put me in a position to protect people, and the badge sort of generates a certain amount of trust, and gramps does a great job of getting me insight… sometimes.

As far as giving others new emotional starts, well, hell, I don’t know. I try to help everyone as best I can. If they need me for a temporary emotional crutch, that’s ok with me. As long as it doesn’t interfere with my family—which now includes Marie, of course. Man, what a woman… Love that lady—forever. Hmmm, thinking about it, guess I did give her a new emotional start, and in a sense, some witness protection. Hell, I protected her from those vigilante bastards that were after her. But in all honesty, she gave me as much of an emotional new start as I gave her. We were meant for each other. I’m certain of that –as certain as I am of Gramps and what lies here after.

3. What is your most important goal?

The Three of Cups is an interesting card given what the other two cards say about you. Generally this card is about transitioning from one role to another. You may be at a place where you want to move beyond who you have been.

This card often represents a party atmosphere so it may be that you want to get to happier times and move into that next role for yourself. When this card shows up as a goal card, I often see someone who wants to make life more pleasant for others. Sort of like a party planner for life but not with the idea of being unrealistic.

You want to give others happier times than you had. That is what this feels like to me.3_cups

Response: Guess who could say when I met Marie she changed my life and what I could make of it. Living in on a ranch in Wyoming can be a lonely business but I always thought having another woman in my life would be a mistake, but after knowing Marie, well, she and Gramps made me see differently. Yeah, did I tell you I love that woman? Yeah. She makes Jesse’s, my son’s, life and mine complete. Now I want Jesse to find what I have, what Gramps had told me all along. That a real love can be forever. You know that’s why the old man is still with us. ‘Cause he won’t leave until he’s buried next to his true love, my great, great grandmother. It amazes me sometimes.

4. Where do you get your strength from?

Whoa. Huge card here for your strength card, Jake. Death isn’t just about physical end to life. It is about life-shaking transformation that is painful as all get out.

When I see Death as a strength card, I have to wonder if you actually revel in the changes that you go through. And you like to cheat Death as well, but will that ever erase the pain of the time you couldn’t cheat Death? Seems like you lost someone pretty important to you, Jake.death

Remember that drawing strength from change is painful but rewarding when you know that the next step is always something different.

Response: Yes Ma’am. Probably why I joined special forces when I was in the army. Yeah, guess I cheated death a few times with the battles I’ve been in. Saw a lot of those who didn’t as well. Hell, lost someone pretty important? Yeah, a few people. But I’ll be damned if I’m losing Marie. I’d do whatever I had to in order to protect her. Like Gramps with my grandmother, I want to be with Marie forever. I’ll wait one way or another. Even if I’m dead.

5. Why do you want to be remembered?

Ha! The King of Wands is so perfect for a Leo on the cusp of Virgo. This is about contained, maintained, controlled passion, Jake. Your desire is to be a leader and policy maker. You want to be able to act on those causes that you are passionate about. Your goal is to become a chief rather than an Indian, I think.

sage_wandsThe King of Wands is a man who allows passion into his life. He is soulful and alive but doesn’t allow his needs to rule his life. He rules his passions so that they work for him.

Response: Hey, don’t say Chief so loud, the boys in the department will start whooping it up about that durned loin-cloth I had to wear and I’ll never hear the end of it… Being Sheriff is just fine with me and as far as causes to be passionate about, Marie and my family are the biggest causes I know.

Thanks for the reading Ms Arwen I better go.
