Thanksgiving Tarot

I am a member of the Aeclectic Tarot forum run by Solandia. It is a favorite haunt of mine for many reasons. One is because this is where I first began sharing spreads I designed. In 2005 I built a spread for Thanksgiving.

I wanted to address gratitude but also to make it tie into the meal. I tried to lay the cards out like the food might be on the table. The center card is the most important one to me for Thanksgiving. I think we tend to forget what our blessing in life is or perhaps we focus on the wrong thing.

So here is my 2005 Thanksgiving Spread along with my own reading for myself. I am enriched by your comments so I hope you will take a moment to just let me know you were here. If you are having trouble with my comments section, please email me with a subject of “COMMENT PROBLEMS” so I can try to figure out what is going on.

Arwen’s Thanksgiving Spread (2005)

  1. Turkey — What sustains you.
    • Seven of Cups — A woman sits in her room dreaming of things she could have. Her dog lies beside her with a ball close by. For me this is the card of the daydreamer who needs to get out and do something. So it is interesting to me to see that I am sustained by my own daydreams. Does this mean I need to find something more substantial? Or does it mean that I am ok to be a dreamer. All my life has been a struggle defending my dreams and my alternative way of seeing things. I am finding this to be a rather empowering card, frankly. The world needs more dreamers. I am reminded of this quote.

The world needs dreamers and the world needs doers. But above all, the world needs dreamers who do.~~Sarah Ban Breathnach

  2. Stuffing– What completes you.
    • 3 of Swords — OUCH! Apparently this is lesson time for Arwen since this is another card I see in a negative manner. Heartbreak completes me? That’s a bit closer to the truth than I’d like to admit, thanks.Just this week I did a class with Robert Place on the chakras. I highly recommend taking a class with him if you can. He’s got a very compelling way of sharing knowledge. I had volunteered to have a reading done by Robert to demonstrate his Chakra layout. One of the things that came up was my attachment to some old hurts still. I thought I’d moved on, but I now see that I’m still marking my place in life based on someone one else’s betrayals. So the idea that this completes me is not a comforting one for me. Can I have another card please? 🙂
  3. Cranberry Sauce — What you don’t get enough of.
    • 9 of Swords — WTH? I don’t get enough of nightmares and anxieties? I don’t get enough …oh wait. LOL I see what you mean! The cards are doing a backhanded compliment I think. I am not much of a worrier. I used to be. I used to worry myself sick over what would happen if I didn’t do what my family thought I should do or my friends or or or… you get the picture. I’ve developed a thicker hide though. I do take on the fears and sorrows of my clients, that’s very true. But I don’t have enough of my own. I think I’ll pass the cranberry sauce this year. lol!
  4. Green Bean Casserole — What you get too much of.
    • Seeker of Wands — Hello Knight of Wands, you passionate fella! I see this card as someone who is kicked back and cruising for life. He doesn’t really care too much about others and is somewhat selfish. But he’s passionate and very active. For me this is a reminder to not be so apart from others. I need to pick up the reins and guide my own horse a bit better, I think.
  5. Bread — What you need to share.
    • Seer of Swords — And now for the Page of Swords. Is it me or are there are lot of mental cards in this reading? Here is a message of mental activity. Taking soemthing that is going on in my head and making it more real. He is a bit of the Fool in the minor arcana, isn’t he? Standing on a rock with his dog beside him. Why does he balance that sword? To see if he can or to show off? Perhaps this is also about me letting my own light shine a bit more. I’ve been in the shadow of others a bit. Perhaps it is time for me to take more chances?
  6. Pie — What you should enjoy more.
    • 5 of Pentacles — Ok, now I’m laughing my rear off because this is one of those readings I HATE doing for others. Seems like every card that turns up is negative. This is the card of the Little Match Girl to me. Always has been because of the idea of not knocking on the door when you needed help. Why didn’t she just ask for help? I’ve never understood that. So this goes back to me needing to speak up for myself more. I need to enjoy life in general a bit more. I think the 5 of Pentacles here is a reminder of where I used to be. 🙂 Contrast and comparison!
  7. Blessing — What your blessing is in life.
    • Seer of Pentacles — Now this I get. My blessing in life is my own personal page of pentacles. This can only be my beloved housemate (Virgo male) who has helped me in so many ways recently. I can’t ever begin to thank him enough for all the blessings he has brought into my life. And I am also this card for my own actions have gotten me where I am. He offered but I said yes and I packed the boxes and I gave notice and I made the drive here. He opened the path but I took those steps.

So that is my Thanksgiving Spread. It is also an example of how I do readings for others. I normally give more verbiage but shortened it up for this exercise.

So, leave me a comment. Tell me what you think. Do your own reading and share that here. I look forward to hearing from you.
