Ghosts of the Past

What kisses did you mean to give? To get? Who can you not forget?

Halloween Oracle Ghost Regret
Halloween Oracle
#affirmation This card makes me think of Ol’ Blue Eyes. No, not Bill Clinton, silly. The original Ol’ Blue Eyes himself. That hat-wearing son-of-a-gun Sinatra, Frank Sinatra.

Regrets? I’ve had a few….did it myyyyy way.

“Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.”

Here is the card Regrets from Stacey DeMarco’s Halloween Oracle (Blue Angel distributed by U.S. Games). The moment I saw the box I was drawn to this deck. The box features a sugar skull.

But this card is an eerie one with our milky-eyed miss misting in and out. She stares up and out in an unseeing way. She almost seems transfixed by whatever she sees.

Perhaps it is the memory of things she didn’t do. Things she didn’t try. People she didn’t forgive or didn’t forget. Kisses she meant to give. Love she meant to offer.

[Tweet “What kisses did you mean to give? To get? Who can you not forget?”]

I don’t know about you, but that’s not what I want for my own afterlife. I may not be the type to ride my motorcycle sideways and slide in screaming whoo hooo, but I do want to be the woman who can say, “Yeah, I have no regrets. No ghosts to haunt me.”

What about you?

Today’s affirmation

I release my regrets. I let my fears ghost away. I believe that every choice I’ve made has led me to this moment. And this moment is good. The past holds more joy than sorrow because I choose to focus on the joy. I move into my future self confident in my ability to seek joy.

Seek joy, y’all Pass it on.

Yeah, thanks, Frank. I’ll do it my way too.

Big Hearts + Long Necks

What if all we had to do was replace obligation with heart-driven desire?

Ancient Animal Wisdom 5 Giraffe
Ancient Animal Wisdom

#affirmation Before diving into today’s card, I wanted to check in with you. Is there a deck you would like to see me feature here? Do you have any questions about Tarot that you would like answered? Let me know.

Here is a card from US Games’ Ancient Animal Wisdom by Stacy James and Jada Fire. This oracle deck has thirty eight (38) cards along with quite a few spreads as well. The messages on each are New Age based with a loving emphasis on your own intuition.

Here we have Giraffe. I pulled this card at random. I was intrigued by the colors then the loving expression in the the two animals in the foreground pulled me in. The eyes are so powerful, aren’t they?

I immediately thought of the reach of the giraffe. How they stretch to get the leaves they want then stretch down to drink water. Stretch was the impression I got from this card.

Then I read the description in the book which talked about the large heart of this animal along with the long neck. The message I took away from the book was this is an encouragement to stretch for your heart’s desire.

[Tweet “What if all we had to do was replace obligation with heart-driven desire?”]

To quote the book, “replace obligations with heart-driven desire“.

Today’s affirmation is built from this:

I set aside meaningless obligations. I embrace my heart-driven desire. Like a giraffe, I use my large heart to drive myself forward. I stretch to reach what fulfills me. I extend my self into that liminal space. I bring back joy and bliss. I give thanks for unknown blessings already on their way.

Seek joy, y’all.

Cuckoos, Peacocks + NaNoWriMo

When is a cuckoo better than a peacock? Check out this great deck for using w/ #NaNoWriMo.

Chrysalis Tarot Visionary Knight of Scrolls
Chrysalis Tarot

#affirmation Today’s card is from a deck that is making a bit of a stir due to the unorthodox suits and courts and Majors. I happen to really like this deck. Not sure about reading with it in public just yet but I do like the inspiration I get from it.

[Tweet “When is a cuckoo better than a peacock? Check out this great deck for using w/ #NaNoWriMo.”]

I think it would be an excellent deck to work with doing my #NaNoWriMo based workshop that I’ve turned into an eCourse. That’s because it has very evocative images.

Here is the Knight of swords re-imagined as the Visionary, the Knight of Scrolls. The pen may be mightier than the sword here in this Air suit. Our Knight is no young man on a moving animal. Instead, he is a mature man who sits on what looks like a cushion atop a stone pedestal. If I am not mistaken, that’s a cuckoo on his shoulder staring at the peacock feathers.

And it hits me. The cuckoo is not an attractive bird per se. The peacock is admired far and wide for its beauty. Could the cuckoo be longingly dreaming of being a peacock? Or maybe just seen as worthy by the peacock?

The Visionary sits in a position of readiness. You will see this particular pose in many portraits of rulers and leaders. It indicates that he can get up at any time. I think that feeds into the movement part of the Knights that I like.

So we have a man at the ready while he holds a symbol of beauty and a symbol of, what?, less-than?

I think the message that is loudest for me here is that the cuckoo needs to enjoy its own beauty. There is a simplicity to the snow white feathers that the peacock can never achieve. Perhaps we can also point out to the cuckoo that it is alive here while the peacock is only represented by feathers–removed or shed.

When we dream, when we envision our lives, maybe we need to focus on what we have rather than what we lack.

Today’s affirmation:

I have what I need. I am enough. I am beautiful and strong. I desire myself. I dream gorgeous dreams because I am the star of them. I breathe in joy. I exhale gratitude. Loved and loving, I love each of you.

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.

#affirmation Some days I write peaceful, loving, uplifting #affirmations. Other days? Well other days sometimes come after working 13 hour days, getting 6 hrs of sleep because I chose to reread a bit of a favorite book, rolling out to walk all the dogs and then realizing…hmmmm, I didn’t write today’s affirmation.

So since it is looking like a Ten of Wands day for me, how about some time management tips from you! Tell me something you do to save time. Is it brushing your teeth while you shower? Eating your first meal as you drive to work?

Let’s hear them!

Today’s affirmation:

I get things done. I prioritize well. I focus on what’s in front of me. I clear my plate before moving to the next task. I gently decline any new tasks today. I am organized. I am alert. I am ready to get things done. Loved and loving, I love each of you.

Affirmation For Evil

Today’s message is a simple one. It’s about evil.

Symbolon Tarot Magician

#affirmation Today’s message is a simple one. It’s about evil.

I know right? Not a subject I talk about a lot, but there you go. Me being all different and shit.

Okay, so maybe not. Maybe I just wanted to share a bit of a song I heard last night. Now the fact that I was listening to the radio at all is Audible.com’s fault. See their app broke so I couldn’t listen to my book. And I wasn’t in the mood for silence right then.

So I flipped on the radio and hit scan. Three stations went by then I heard a catchy melody with a somewhat familiar voice. My friends will tell you that I don’t recognize singers very well.

But the line that I heard as this. “People loving people That’s the enemy of everything that’s evil.”

WHOA.

Simple. Direct. Profound.

So here are the lyrics to this song by Garth Brooks. What do you think of it?

“People Loving People”

Doctor, you ain’t got a clue
For whatever’s making this world blue
You can’t get forgiveness at the store
And peace, it’s a politician’s war

You won’t find no resolution in the bottom of a bottle
In the stars or Aristotle, the only answer to the problem is…

People loving people
That’s the enemy of everything’s that’s evil
Ain’t no quick fix at the end of a needle
It’s just people loving people
Whoa, woah, woah, woah

Words aren’t what they seem to be
Talk is cheap but lies are free
We fear what we don’t understand
We’ve been scared since time began

All the colors and the cultures circle ’round us on a spindle
It’s a complicated riddle, the solution is so simple…

It’s people loving people
That’s the enemy of everything’s that’s evil
Ain’t no quick fix at the end of a needle
It’s just people loving people
Whoa, woah, woah, woah

You can pawn it off on kings and queens and those behind the curtain
Say what can make a difference in a world so full of hurting
But I believe the remedy starts right here with you and me

People loving people
That’s the enemy of everything’s that’s evil
Ain’t no quick fix at the end of a needle
It’s just people loving people
It’s just people loving people
Whoa, woah, woah, woah
Whoa, woah, woah, woah
It’s just people loving people
~~Garth Brooks

Respond Or Stay Seated?

When is it time to respond and when is it time to stay seated?

[Tweet “When is it time to respond and when is it time to stay seated?”]

Fenestra Tarot Queen of Pentacles
Fenestra Tarot

#affirmation Today’s card reminds me to look forward. It reminds me to keep my seat for just a bit longer. Even when prodded and poked, I need to hold my position.

The Fenestra Tarot’s Queen of Pentacles looks out from her throne. She has a soft look on her face but a determined one. This lady has learned that to keep her home and family safe, she must make sacrifices.

Sometimes those are sacrifices of money, of time, but sometimes they are sacrifices of self.

However, she’s also learned not to make those decisions impetuously. Her vision must remain on the goals she has set for her family and for herself.

I think that we all have made sacrifices of self. I think that many of us could look back and say that some of those sacrifices might have been done for the wrong reasons.

Now I try to remain seated. I try not to leap up offering soul, heart and self until I am sure it is what is truly needed from me. It wasn’t an easy lesson–and it isn’t one I always succeed at either.

What about you?

Today’s affirmation:

I am confident. I do the right thing by considering before responding. I hold my peace to learn the truth of a thing. I am a beautiful, strong, honorable human. Loved and loving, I love each of you.

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.

Blank Walls

Discussion of the Ace of Pentacles from the Crystal Visions Tarot

[Tweet “What is the potential of a blank wall?”]

Crystal Visions Tarot Ace of Pentacles
Crystal Visions Tarot

Today’s card reminds me of empty spaces. It makes me think of what is coming to those empty spaces. I guess in a way this is the potential of a blank wall.

Here we see the Ace of Pentacles from the Crystal Visions Tarot by Jennifer Galasso. And yes, that is the Stevie Nicks song she is referring to.

A pentacle is woven between two trees with vines growing around it. Beneath it are crystals, gems and more of the vine. It is what is beneath that calls to me in this picture. The potential of the crystals that grow there.

I must tell you that I’ve had and used this deck since it came out. I’ve just now seen two women in this deck. Ha! Tarot never fails to surprise me.

So here’s to growth and empty spaces and surprises. Just like an empty wall in a home, this card waits to be filled. It’s an offering to us…a promise of good things to come.

Today’s affirmation:

I am open to abundance. I walk into prosperity. I fill up my world with beauty and joy. I am strong. I am light. I am love. Loved and loving, I love each of you.

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.

Digging Ditches

Sometimes we need to dig ditches to attract what we want

Chinese Tarot Ace of Cups
Chinese Tarot

#affirmation One of my long-time loves is China. Japan and other areas of Asia, too, but China seems to be a forgotten memory to me. As a child I read many of Pearl S. Buck‘s books. They made me feel as if I was rereading my own story. I can’t describe it any better than that.

The Good Earth trilogy, Pavilion of Women and my favorite, Imperial Woman: The Last Empress all transported me to a place that was so familiar. My mother told me she thought I should have been born Chinese. That was because my favorite food (for breakfast!) was rice with soy sauce.

Here is the lovely Ace of Cups from the Chinese Tarot. It’s recently been reprinted by U.S. Games. I love how she holds the bowl. It looks as if she is addressing it before she drinks it.

Perhaps she is engaging in a morning gratitude giving thanks for what she has.

And for what she is about to receive.

That line should be familiar to anyone with a Christian upbringing (and maybe other faiths as well?)

Are you in a habit of giving thanks for what you haven’t gotten yet? Seems silly to some, but think about it like this.

Giving thanks for what we are about to receive is opening up channels. We are actively engaging in digging ditches for joy, prosperity, and love to flow our way.

Today’s affirmation embraces that idea.

Today I give thanks for unknown blessings already on their way. I am open to the infinite beauty that surrounds me. I dance along the path of abundance. I am available for joy. Loved and loving, I love each of you.

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.

Reality, Swords + Self

How the Five of Swords is like a reality tv show.

Dreaming Way Tarot Five of Swords
Dreaming Way Tarot

#affirmation Today’s card is one of the mental cards. The Five of Swords can often indicate mental battles. These battles may not be real but we give them power by paying attention.

What are we paying attention to?

Other people’s opinions. They are entitled to their thoughts just as we are entitled to ours. Ours should have no more weight in their world than theirs in ours.

By acknowledging that our thoughts are powerful for ourselves rather than others, maybe we can stop wasting time worrying about what others do with their lives.

And likewise.

How much time do we waste watching shows about other people’s lives? Reading articles about other people’s lives? Discussing what other people are doing with their lives?

Me? I’d rather eat bugs than talk about housewives of any town or spoiled children or (fill in the reality show of your choice).

So turn your thoughts to your own doings. Focus on you. Bring your attention back to the one person you do have control over. Make changes. Celebrate differences. Explore your own wonderful self.

Here is your affirmation for today:

I carry my own thoughts. I release others to theirs. My world is made better by focusing on what I can do. I embrace others then release them to their own work. I am a strong, capable human being. My work is good. My life is good. My place in the web is good. Loved and loving, I love each of you.

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.

Unicorns, Rosaries + Time-Outs

Time-outs or time-pouts? Which do you indulge in?

[Tweet “Time-outs or time-pouts? Which do you indulge in? #tarot #affirmation”]

Chrysalis Tarot Two of Scrolls
Chrysalis Tarot

#affirmation I know today is late and I apologize. 😀 It’s been a week today. You know what I mean? Where enough things have to get done that it should take a full week but you have to do them TODAY?

LOL! So that’s why this is late. And I pulled a card on my iPhone app for the Chrysalis Tarot. This deck is making some noise in the Tarot world. Folks either love it or are just not that into it. I’m one of the “love it” group.

Here we have the Two of Scrolls. I love that the scrolls are on top of one another with obvious stairs coming down. A flying unicorn, or is that a horned Pegasus, seems to be launching from the scrolls. Or is it trying to regain its balance?

For me, this card captures the indecision and the balance aspect of the twos of the Tarot. In this deck, Scrolls are Swords. Since this is the suit of Air, Scrolls are a perfect choice for me.

Decisions have to be made. Balance has to be maintained. Not as easy as it sounds some days. We need tools to maintain our equilibrium. Yoga, meditation, alcohol (no Arwen), exercise, all of those (most of those) help us get that equilibrium back.

I have a new tool coming to me. It is a rosary made by a dear friend. I’ll wait while you compute that.

Yes, a rosary.

It won’t be the Catholic version. Here’s a great article on the praying of the rosary: http://www.catholicity.com/prayer/rosary.html It will be my own version. I will share mine once I’ve finished it. I need the rosary so I can get to work on that.

I need to calm my mind. Yesterday I took a nap simply because my mind wouldn’t stop bouncing from thing to thing to thing. I needed to put myself in a time out. 😀 So I did!

Do you ever put yourself in time-outs? I’m hoping that with my rosary and meditation, I will have self-imposed time-outs every day. Not timed pouts–although I am sure that is what they were when I was three and put in a corner. ha!

Today’s affirmation:

My thoughts are focused. My intentions are well thought out. I am a child of the Universe. I am giving opportunities to seek joy and experience happiness. I am balanced and ready. Loved and loving, I love each of you. Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.
