No Return No Deposit

No Return No Deposit…that’s a theme song?

Witchlings
Witchlings

I learned a lot from late night television in the early 80’s. Sounds crazy, but it’s true. I was something of a night owl back then. I would turn on the TV at 2 or 3 in the morning.

One night there was this crazy old musical about some gay men. I didn’t have a VCR (honestly can’t remember if they were in use then or not.) The movie lifted me up but one song stood out.

It’s remained as one of my very favorite songs of all time. The message is what keeps it in my heart. A good thirty years later, the theme of this song remains an anthem for me.

From the opening lines:

I am what I am. I am my own special creation. So come take a look. Give me the hook or the ovation.

And then one of my favorite lines:

[Tweet “I’ve got one life no return no deposit.”]

Here is George Hearn singing “I Am What I Am” from the amazing show, La Cage Aux Folles.

In a geeeeee, that’s a coincidence, it occurs to me that Nathan Lane did NOT sing this in The Birdcage which was the most recent version of La Cage. And his co-star was Mr. Robin Williams.

So that’s an interesting way to round out my week.

And for today’s affirmation? Yeah, you guessed it:

I am what I am. I am my own special creation. I’ve got one life so I will live it to my own expectations. Because I am loved, I love. Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.

Music, Boundaries and Petunias

Today’s card is a reminder that I create my own music.
[Tweet “By setting boundaries that work for me, my song has a place to be heard.”]

Paulina Tarot Ace of Pentacles

Boundaries and borders can be scary things. We set them but then allow others to wander all over them–trampling our petunias as it were. I’m better these days about being firm about protecting what’s important to me. One of those things is my right to allow and or disallow those who bring disharmony into my world.

Every orchestra has discordance. It is what makes a song interesting. But no conductor will allow another conductor to change the way he or she conducts. It is, after all, their interpretation.

I’ve run headlong into an interpretation I do not agree with but I do like the conductor. So for now, I will play as part of that orchestra. When the song is done, I will quietly pack and leave.

This Ace of Pentacles from the amazing Paulina Tarot (U.S. Games) reminds me to focus on my own notes for now.

Today I play for me. Today I reset my personal boundaries. Today I want to be at peace with my own choices. I set fences to keep things in as well as out. I am the conductor of my own song. Loved and loving, I love each of you.

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.

Abundance, Money + Living

Too often we lock our focus on money as the only marker of abundance. We make that bank account our only hope to live abundantly. So we work diligently. We save every penny we can. We weep when the car or the fridge or the a/c robs us of our savings.

Joie_CoinsAceToday’s card is a reminder to me about abundance living. Not abundant living, but abundance. This woman holds her hands out because she knows she will have enough. She knows she will be given what she needs. She trusts the Universe to bring her to the place where abundance is.

It’s hard to remember to be open to abundance. Many of us live with the idea that we have to budget. That we must watch every penny.

And that’s not a wrong thing. It just may not be the best right thing. 😀

Too often we lock our focus on money as the only marker of abundance. We make that bank account our only hope to live abundantly. So we work diligently. We save every penny we can. We weep when the car or the fridge or the a/c robs us of our savings.

We close ourselves off to abundance living when we do that.

Abundance is a large quantity of something. So for me, my abundance living is marked by what I have. That includes my friends, my family, my pets. It includes the fact that I don’t walk through this world naked. It includes the fact that I have things to sit on, places to lie my head. It includes that I have the ability to drive (and pay for gas).

[Tweet “Abundance is so much more than money in the bank.”] It is opening my hands rather than closing my fists. It is appreciating what I have.

When I am open to the idea that I am blessed, I am always blessed more. Without fail, I am blessed more.

So today’s journal prompt is this. “How do I close myself off from being open to abundance? How can I stay open to the idea of abundance living?”

Who’s Telling The Truth?

Paulina_2SwordsToday’s card reminds me that there are two sides (at least) to every tale. In fact, I would propose that there are three. Mine, yours and the truth.

Now I’m not saying that you or I are lying. I’m not saying that at all. It’s more that we each bring our own truth to story telling. What I see and interpret is influenced, guided, filtered by my life experiences. Same for you.

I might see someone cut someone else off in traffic and think, “What a jerk. They are rude and have no manners.” You might see them and think, “Wow, they must be late for work.”

And the truth might be something completely different.

We are all influenced by everything that occurs in our life. Even our choice to avoid things that might influence, influences.

What I am saying is that we can’t ever be completely “clean” of life.

And that, I think, is a very good thing. That way we can bring our life events in to help us grapple with things large and small.

Back to the traffic incident. I could also stop, breathe, and then say, “Maybe they were unaware of how close that other car was. Maybe they have a sick child and are rushing to the hospital.”

I don’t HAVE TO go to the bad every time.

I don’t HAVE TO assume the worst.

Did you know that’s a documented human response? The assuming the worst?

It’s part of the “fight or flight” animal instinct in all of us. Scientists say that is why we look for the worst in a situation. It’s in order to keep ourselves safe.

I am challenging myself today to not assume the worst. Particularly after Monday, when my “they’re all jerks” is in high reactive mode, I must fight to get back to a more joyful outlook.

It ain’t easy, kids. It ain’t easy.

But I have faith that I can do it. Just like I have faith that I can continue toward my goal of 10k steps a day. I’m now averaging over 5k a day so that 10k isn’t that far away.

Neither is my joy-seeker outlook. I know I left it here somewhere.

I’ll go rummage around in my mental pockets. You do the same.

Let’s meet back here tomorrow to check in on how we did today.

Yes, I’m going to mention this a lot in the next 25 days.
No, I don’t make a dime from this.
Yes, I know it may seem obnoxious but I’m trusting y’all to understand I do this for my love of my friend and my pride in his work. MUAH!

Blow, Shoes & Power

Today’s card reminds me that you blow. No really. YOU BLOW! And I’m going to tell you why if you will just keep reading. But really. Y’all all blow.

Just like this cheerful Page of Wands from Paulina Cassidy’s 2011 US Games Joie de Vivre Tarot. He has learned such a valuable lesson. Do you know what that is?

I’ll tell you. He’s learned that sometimes you have to blow your own horn. It’s okay to tell people how fabulous you are. One of the key rookie mistakes many new authors and new business owners make is that they are reluctant to tell someone how fab they are.

Consider this. Your shoe needs fixing. You go into two shops.

Shop Owner One: “Well, I can try. I mean I just opened my doors and I’m not sure I’m going to succeed.”

Show Owner Two: “Of course I can. I just opened my doors so I can show you how I think customers should be treated. You can pick it up tomorrow.”

Which one would you pick? I know which one I would pick.

It’s okay and even essential to blow your own horn a bit. And while you’re at it, help someone else blow theirs. I know…who thought I could tell you how much you blow on a Saturday, right?

But you must be your own publicist first. If you don’t believe in you, how can others be inspired to follow? If I told you, “I think you might want to find joy because, well, it’s pretty cool” instead of “Seek joy, y’all!”, which grabs you more? Which makes you believe that I really mean what I’m saying?

BLOW.
YOUR.
OWN.
HORN.
Y’ALL.

Here. I’ll demonstrate. 😀 I’m the life coach you want to work with when you must regain your personal power and you have to find your joy and hang on to it.

What about you? Tell me your own fabulousness! Share a link to your business page in the comments. Let others know how to find you.

Blow your own horn, darlings. I’m giving you a forum to do that today. Take advantage of it. Put your two pretty lips together and blow.

Oh, by the way? The spread in the Joie de Vivre LWB? That’s my renamed Joy Seeker spread (horn blowing).

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.
