Risky Fish + Authentic Lives

Today’s card is one of the scariest cards in the Tarot–to some. It used to terrify me. If I am being honest, it still does at times. But why? Should we live in fear of this card? I’ve pulled this card in readings so many times. And so many times, I’ve seen grown men and women pull back as if they were about to meet the Texas Chainsaw Massacre dude.

I’ve pulled this card in readings so many times. And so many times, I’ve seen grown men and women pull back as if they were about to meet the Texas Chainsaw Massacre dude.

I’d laugh if I didn’t intimately understand their reaction. The message of this card is freaking scary, y’all.

Right. The Ace of Water. The erstwhile card of new love, deepening love. Love is what scares so many of us.

And why is that? Because risking your heart is scary. But that fingerling in the foreground? He or she knows that if a risk isn’t taken, growth won’t occur. Did you know that fish tend to grow to the size of their environment? So if that little fish doesn’t move out to the deep, scary unknown, it will never grow.

If we don’t take risks, we won’t grow. My friend Jay Pryor took an amazing risk in his 10/11 video. I’m here to tell you that my mouth fell open when I watched it. Talk about risky!

But one of the reasons I admire this man is his authenticity. He works at living an authentic life. And that ain’t easy kids. It just ain’t easy.

He talked this week about taking risks. I hope you will take two minutes and nineteen seconds to listen to his words –> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4JsF_Bzc4Q <--. Then take another set of minutes to journal with today's journal prompt. "What would I lose if I told someone that I loved them? How does avoiding risk limit my growth?" If you like, share with me in the comments what risk you will take. Ace of Water, Gaian Tarot (limited edition), Joanna Powell Colbert

Oh, Get Filled!

Housewives_1CupsToday’s card reminds me that too often I look for others to fill me up. I forget that the best judge of what I need is usually me.

I say usually because there are times when certain people can ask me if I’ve lost my damned mine or if I just think career suicide is the way to go.

That’s generally right after I’ve told them how I plan to tell someone off at work. 😐

Yeah, not a good thing.

Luckily where I work now is, for the most part, a great place. Like all jobs, it has those things (and people) I’d rather not have to deal with.

But let’s get back to that cup.

Is it completely empty or is it ready to be filled up?

For me, the Ace of Cups is a sign that my client is ready for emotional fulfillment. Someone is waiting for them to give them the signal.

How often have you needed a refill at a restaurant? Wasn’t it just natural to hold your glass up so someone would recognize your need?

How hard is it to hold your metaphorical glass up? How hard is it to know that glass will be filled?

More…how hard is it not to fill that cup with bitter wine (whine works too) dwelling on what you don’t have and what you can’t get and what isn’t falling into place.

Imagine the Universe is standing by with a pitcher of joy.

A full cup can’t be filled.

Don’t fill your cup with bitterness and negativity.

Stay open to the idea that joy is not just coming.

It’s here.

Seek joy, y’all. Pass it on.

Joy, Expectations & Choice

May today bring you joys you never expected. May you see joy in ways that you hadn’t thought about. I love each of you.

aceofwaterToday’s card reminds me that for us to grow we must head out into deeper waters. On this day where so many of us gather with loved ones, let’s remember to deepen those relationships. Tell them how much they mean to you. Remind yourself of why you choose to love and laugh and learn with them.

Let’s not forget those who don’t have anyone or any where to go today either. Some choose that quiet time while others would rather be with loved ones but can’t. Some are working on this day to make sure things are running in case of an emergency. I hope none of us need their services today or ever, really. But here’s to all of those alone today for whatever reason.

The Ace of Cups here is a simple wish for everyone to find joy today. Find it wherever you can. Through a phone call. Through email. Through family. Through Facebook or Twitter. Through the purr or pant of a pet.

May today bring you joys you never expected. May you see joy in ways that you hadn’t thought about. I love each of you.

Seek Joy, Y’all. Pass it on!
