Articles and Thoughts on the Tarot

Today's card is the Four of Discs. This is an interesting card to be because of the image. In Frank Fradella's deck, we see a very powerfully built man glaring at something stage left. He has four large golden disks clutched to him. Well, three really, because the fourth one has fallen out of his hands, but he isn't aware of it. There is a grey box in the foreground that has a heavy lid which has been ripped apart. It is a safety deposit box because if you look carefully at the grey background, you will see he is in a vault with a wall of boxes behind him.

Apparently our hero or is he a villain has taken this money out of this box. But what was his motive? Did he need it? Is his glare one of self-righteousness or is it one of the miser's cry "mine, mine all mine!"? What will he do with this money? Will he use it for himself or someone in need? Or is he the one in need?

Why do people hoard things?
What is yours?
Why are you going through life so selfishly?
What will be the meaning of your life when you are dead and gone?

Gaze upon the stark blankness of this page and reflect.
Ornamentation only distracts.
Words only delay thought.

Sometimes we don't realize that the more we hang on to our things, the poorer we make ourselves. It is in the sharing that we grow. The lesson of this card for me is that we must loosen our grip on what we think makes us prosperous. For how can our Four of Discs man gain anything else if he is clutching what he has so tightly that he is already losing that?

Open your hearts. Open your hands. Let things go so that more can gain entry into your life today. Focus on sharing and caring for your fellow human beings and see what riches you are rewarded with. Giving a homeless person a dollar and looking them in the eye when you do it is far better than crumpling that dollar in your pocket as you avert your eyes and walk by them huddled in the street.

Don't be a miser with your time either. If you are stretching every penny just to keep a roof over your own head and food in your family's mouths, then look for opportunities to enrich your life by volunteering where you can.

Create your own great day!
