Snakebites & Love

What about you? What do you see in this card? Why do you think the snake bites one and not the other?

Deviant Moon Borderless Lovers
Deviant Moon Borderless

Today’s card is a reminder that there is balance in love. This deck intrigues me a lot. I don’t read with it very often but just got a copy of it for review. It’s the borderless version of the Deviant Moon Tarot from U.S. Games. So much is happening here.

The two lovers are entwined. The Moon shines a dedicated beam down to them. A snake chomps on the male figure’s left leg. Is that to envenomate or is it to warn or maybe it is to transform?

Her head is back in what looks like ecstasy to me. His eyes are wide open where as hers are shut. She is trusting that he will hold her and not drop her.

In some ways this card is super disturbing to me. It reminds me of all the times I’ve trusted someone not to drop me. Of all the times I’ve gone into a relationship blind.

But why does the snake bite him and not her?

In my current relationship, I feel that I do have my eyes open. We have known one another for three years. We’ve had love, fights, sickness, joy…and so much more. So we decided to get married since neither of us could see it going any where else. Not so romantic as it might have been if we were in our twenties…grin. But far less drama!

So I’ll take this balanced lovers card as a reminder that trust and seeing things for what they are are the important messages for today.

What about you? What do you see in this card? Why do you think the snake bites one and not the other?

Keep Rising Up

Do you hang out with crows? Do you have a continual stream of negativity from others? Do you condone it by staying? Do you encourage it by commenting on it?

Shadowscapes Tarot Six of Swords
Shadowscapes Tarot

Today’s card reminds me to rise above. There will always be those who demean others to make themselves feel better. Sadly, this seems to be part of the current human nature. And it truly makes me sad because it is just as easy to praise others as to condemn them.

This Six of Swords is from the gorgeous Shadowscapes Tarot. She rises above the five crows. She’s chosen to take the swan’s flight up and over the naysayers.

Choices. It’s all about choices. She could have chosen to stay there with the crows. Even with her beautiful swan companion, she still would have been surrounded by crows. Instead of staying there, she took herself away.

Sometimes, it seems safe to stay with the crows. At least then you know you aren’t the target of their attack. At least then you feel protected from the incessant peck peck peck of their negativity, right?

It wears a soul down. Rubs it thin. Like cloth that is constantly abraded by wind, it becomes tattered on the edges. We can mend the holes, mind the frayed threads, but eventually we are worn down. Eventually we either become shadows of ourselves or, worse, crows ourselves.

(Please note that I happen to like crows but in this card the symbol of the crow is a negative one.)

Crows gather in flocks. We call them murders.

Do you hang out with crows? Do you have a continual stream of negativity from others? Do you condone it by staying? Do you encourage it by commenting on it?

I have requirements. I require that seek joy. I require that I acknowledge the pissed off moments, the sad moments, the moments of sheer heinous what-the-fuckery. I have them. We all have them. But my requirements are that I let them pass on through. I don’t hold on to them. I have to let them go.

[Tweet “Sometimes I have to KEEP letting them go.”]

I won’t stay with crows. I won’t allow my negative feelings to drive my life. They happen. I move on.

Because my life has changed so much since I started actively seeking joy, I won’t stop. The day I first named myself a professional joy seeker truly galvanized (word of 2013, y’all) my world.

So don’t let life’s crows take over. Ride that swan up and out. Keep riding. Keep moving up and out. Don’t sweat the slumps, the slips, the slides. Keep moving up and out.

I’m right here with you doing the same thing.

Choose Your Weapon

I’m fairly thick-skinned with most but those closest to me can hurt me the worst with this. I have to monitor my reactions and decide which sword I will pick up.

image
Today’s card is a reminder to me that I don’t have to accept all invitations to arguments. I know a few people who seem to relish picking at flaws of others. They love to point out any mistakes. Perhaps they see it as a way to help others improve. For me, it can hit me one of two ways.

I can see it as an opportunity to review things in my life for improvement.

I can see it as someone needing to feel superior because their own life isn’t fitting their needs.

Really depends on the context and how often it occurs as to which I see it as.

I’m fairly thick-skinned with most but those closest to me can hurt me the worst with this. I have to monitor my reactions and decide which sword I will pick up.

Will I pick up the one that allows me to parry back sharp and swift?
Will I pick up the one that lets me thrust straight to the heart in defense?
Will I pick up the one with the blunted tip so that I only bruise in return?
Will I pick up the one that requires two hands and all the force I can bring?
Will I pick up the ceremonial sword that shows I am ready to learn new moves?

I can attack back (and is it really back if the person truly means well but delivers poorly?)

I can stop and listen to my own intuition. A self-check to see if the advice is warranted is never a bad thing.

This Five of Swords from Lisa Hunt’s Fairytale Tarot reminds me that the sword I choose today will have repercussions. I must breathe. Maybe even count to ten or perhaps one hundred. Swords tend to have more than one way to cut–pointed tip, sharp edges, double edges. As the one wielding the weapon, I am the most qualified to NOT use it.

So what about you? What do you think? How do you react to criticism?

Today’s card reminds me that I need to get ready. I need to be prepared. I am moving into a new era of me. I want to celebrate that.

Do you ever have the feeling, the urge, the itching under your skin telling you that things are changing? That you need to be ready for a skin shedding of epic proportions? That’s where I am right now.

It’s one of the reasons I haven’t been blogging as much. Something is shifting, y’all. It’s going to be amazing, I know. I just need to focus on what it is.

In the free readings I’ve been doing this month, I’m seeing a lot of people get cards that talk about transcendence, hitting the next level, moving on up to the east side. 😀 My work with Leonie’s workbook (the way everyone is getting the free reading) did this to me last year.

I revealed my sacred word of the year on my guest post for Leonie. It’s REGENERATE. And that’s really buzzing in my head right now. My website, my purpose, my passion–all need to be regenerated this year.

I will still do Tarot–can’t see myself ever letting go of that tool. But the focus is going to move more intensely into helping you become professional joy seekers. I want to start an army of joy seekers, y’all.

[Tweet “That’s right. Aunt Arwen Wants You!”]

Are you ready? Can you feel the shift coming? Do your very bones vibrate with the intensity? Mine do. Mine very much do.

Oh! Do you want a free reading? Maybe to see what your shift will be?

Well, for $9.95 you can!

LOL I know. That’s not really free, but the $9.95 is for the download version of the 2014 Create Your Amazing Year Workbook+Planner. If you buy it via this link –> http://bit.ly/TbAIncred

Tarot In Nine Words: The Devil

Card Fifteen is one of the BigBadBohemeth ™ cards of the Tarot. The Devil carries such ingrained meanings for any one who was raised in a typical Christian home–myself included. But I will never forget what Father Trimble (Episcopal) said once.

Rider Waite Smith Devil
Rider Waite Smith

I began this project in 2008. One of my hundred things to do is finish this project.

Back in 1993 I started a thread called the 9Word Poetry Challenge. We put up nine words and were to create poems from them. I still do that challenge every now and again. I then applied it to the Tarot.

I look at the card to get nine words. Then those nine words have to be used in a poem about the card. 😀 Sounds easy, right? Well, sometimes…it’s not!

Card Fifteen is one of the BigBadBohemeth ™ cards of the Tarot. The Devil carries such ingrained meanings for any one who was raised in a typical Christian home–myself included. But I will never forget what Father Trimble (Episcopal) said once.

“Hell is being removed from God.”

He never preached brimstone and fire, but the idea of being absented from God’s presence scared the beejeezus out of me. When I first started reading the Tarot, the Devil was a difficult concept for me.

Then I learned that this card was about overindulging in self-pleasures and not caring how it affected others.

Here are my nine words: Wings Chains Flames Fruit Naked Torch Frown Horns Satyr

Here is my poem:

The Devil You Know

Tie me down but let me go
Chains I’ve made myself
Your horns curve towards me
My own reach to your wings
Vestigial tail lit with flames
A reminder of passions unwatched
Some fruits remain forbidden
Still I would be naked to you
Your frown a terrible thing
Release me, you fearsome satyr
I cry then realize this sad thing
Your torch is lit by my own flame
I control the locks and keys.

Six of Water, Gaian Tarot
Six of Water, Gaian Tarot

I do love this card. The traditional meaning has always appealed to me. I think Joanna P. Colbert’s interpretation really soars. Most often you see children in the Six of Cups. This is because one primary meaning is reminiscing. So since childhood is often a thing we think on…the Six of Cups shows littles.

But in the Gaian Tarot, Joanna shows her Mermaid sisters gathered in the water. They hold hands becoming a circle of sisters and friends once again. They swim skyclad because when one is that close, clothes become useless.

I’ll be doing some reminiscing this week. You’ll see your Tarotscopes here tomorrow then a week’s worth of posts I’ve titled Revisiting. Each one is one of my recipe posts. I hope you enjoy them.

I’m off to say “I do” to a pretty fabulous man. He’s been my partner and my friend for three years now. We decided we might as well add husband to that mix. It’s been fun being texted as W2B. Makes my heart do one of those slow rolls.

I know we will make some memories this week. I hope you do as well. Remember to find the joy in life especially when it’s hard. Sometimes remembered joy is the only joy to be had but you can have it!

So…seek joy, y’all. Pass it on. I’ll be back next week. And I will catch up on all the three card readings. These workbooks are flying out the door. Are you ready to Create Your Amazing Year? If you are, download the workbook then let me know. I’ll set you up with your free three card reading too.

Dreams, Prosperity + Getting Out Of The Way

One of my big things I preach when doing a reading is the concept of prosperity. I harp on the fact that prosperity is so much more than mere money in the bank.

Sun, Cat's Eye Tarot
Cat’s Eye Tarot

Okay, this is really crazy. You know how they say, “Just speak your desire out loud” or “Write your goal down”?

This morning I wrote down about twenty things on my list of 100 things to do in 2014. Tonight I found out that I will be marking one of them off my list next week. Yeah. How about them apples?

It’s an unexpected gift. It’s an incredibly generous gift.

I firmly believe in the power of stating what you want. And then letting go of it. Sometimes, we get in the way of our dreams. We try to control them. We try to channel them into what we think is the right thing.

[Tweet “Sometimes, the right thing is to shut up and let go.”\

I’ll be doing more work with my workbook. I haven’t even written down the big goals.

One of my big things I preach when doing a reading is the concept of prosperity. I harp on the fact that prosperity is so much more than mere money in the bank. It’s above and beyond that.

Prosperity is the people in our lives. It’s the home we live in. It’s the laughter and joy we generate. It’s not just green, folding cash. It’s what makes us feel wealthy.

I pulled a card focused on “what do I need to know about my prosperity.”

The answer? The Sun. A beautiful orange tabby cat leans against a post. He’s home. He’s safe. He’s enjoying a simple pot of daisies and a gorgeous view.

My answer to “what do I need to know about my prosperity” is to enjoy what I have. Realize that I am living a very prosperous life.

It only gets better from here.

New Year Magic

That bears repeating. ‘I had thought 2013 sucked until I sat down to do the closing ceremony

Ace of Bows, Wildwood Tarot
Wildwood Tarot

Today’s card reminds me of my word for this year. I guess that’s appropriate seeing as how this is the last day for that word–although not for the energy of the word.

The Wildwood Tarot‘s Ace of Bows has the title of Spark of Life. This is a deck I need to work with more. The cards are rich with imagery. My friend Louise Underhill of Priestess Tarot works with this deck as does a new friend, Ellen.

One of the treasures 2013 brought to me has been the new and renewed friendships. This year was truly a galvanizing one. Many small sparks have spread into warm fires of success for me. One unlooked for blessing was an offer to blog somewhere. I can’t say where just yet, but it was a pretty big deal for me. It’s a one time thing but still, it’s a big deal.

Add to that my blogging (which I must get back to more regularly) with Witches And Pagans plus the three books submitted in 2013? Yeah, that sums up a pretty fabulous year of writing. Here on this page I managed to post nearly ever day so go me and go Cai (the other half of Marilu Mann.) If you like to read paranormal (and contemporary), go you to http://www.greatmta.com lol! )

This card also points towards a new beginning. The Ace of Bows is new life, new energy and bright, fresh, shiny starts. I’m embarking on a new journey in one week. I’ll be saying “I do” to a special someone. What better way to kick off 2014, right?

I know that I still have things that need improvement. There’s always room for improvement, yes? Things like unburying my guest room/office so it can actually see use as an office. Continued work on my health. More focus on my lines of income. All of those things will be part of my work with the 2014 Create Your Amazing Year Workbook + Planner.

I have to laugh here because I got an email last night. Here’s what K.C. had to say about this workbook.

“Hi, Arwen. While I’ll admit I got the Leonie Dawson workbook because of your 3-card mini read, I’ve sat down to do it and I am amazed. It is so wonderful. (Of course, you knew that already.) I had thought 2013 sucked until I sat down to do the closing ceremony. That in and of itself was a fabulous gift.

In fact, I loved it so much, I gave 2 as gifts using your link.”

[Tweet “That bears repeating. ‘I had thought 2013 sucked until I sat down to do the closing ceremony.'”]

I can so relate to that statement. I felt the same way about 2012! And of course there have been some sucktastic things about 2013, but the beautiful things (and all of the beautiful people) outweighed the suckage.

I’m thrilled to see someone else connect with the special magic of this workbook. It’s so much more than a calendar/planner. There’s magic waiting to happen. I’m looking forward to some time to work on this even more.

What magic do you want to happen in 2014. That’s your journal prompt, my darlings.

An older man–don’t remember his name–explained a bit of what he was going to do. In my head my skepticism was very high. Dive into an animal’s soul? Retrieve fractured bits? Heal the animal if possible?

Fool, Paulina Tarot

Today’s card is a reminder to never lose hope in magic. That we should always be open to new and different things. The world is a complicated place. I don’t think we can know all there is to know, do you? And that’s part of the FUN of being alive.

In my years on this earth this time, I’ve learned that sometimes we lose pieces of ourselves. There are many ways to regain those pieces. One of those ways is a Shamanic process I know of as “shadow retrieval.”

I was once a part of a small circle where this was done–this shadow retrieval. It wasn’t done on a human. It was done for a cat. I had known the family for a few years. This cat was a foundling. She never, and I mean never, came out if there were strangers in her house. Even people like myself and my partner were not trusted. The only people she trusted were her two humans.

An older man–don’t remember his name–explained a bit of what he was going to do. In my head my skepticism was very high. Dive into an animal’s soul? Retrieve fractured bits? Heal the animal if possible?

WHAT?

Well, y’all, let me tell you. I suspended my disbelief and joined the circle. We drummed very softly as this man (he was just a little man and about 60 maybe?) went into a trance. It was 30 maybe 45 minutes later when he let us know we could stop.

As he told us what he’d seen of her early times, that cat came out. Hand to the Gods, that never-seen feline wander out. She rubbed up against her humans first, then each of us in the circle.

[Tweet “I was blown away. BLOWN. AWAY. It was magic, real and true.”]

Tonight, I am chatting with a facilitator of Shamanic Healing. Her name is Radavie. You can explore her Facebook page (and I hope you like that page as well.) You can also learn more about her at her website.

The show is You Never Know with Arwen and is tonight at 10pm Eastern time. Set your reminders now. You don’t want to miss this!
