Food. I love food. I like food I cook. I like food other people cook. I like uncooked food. I just love food. I have an ongoing series of matching recipes to Tarot cards. I wanted this recipe to go in the Air/Swords category because it was a quick no-brainer kind of meal. The kind you throw together with whatever you have on hand. Since it went together in a hurry and was ready in a hurry, it made me think of the Knights of the Tarot. Always on the move, that suit is generally the age of the single man or woman in my eyes. So this could be a late night meal–what I used to call bar’thirty.

I thought about making it a Wands recipe since it is definitely spicy, but kept coming back to (more…)

Recently I saw the title of a book that simply intrigued me. It made me want to find the book. I have not yet bought this book, but I will own it. Part of what attracted me was the word “snail” in the title. See, lately I’ve learned to pay attention to my path because of snails. I know that sounds odd, but let me explain. (more…)

My friend and fellow writer, J.L. Wilson, has been here before. She writes mysteries with a touch of gray and definitely love too. I had the opportunity to do a reading for one of her characters, Jane Renard. Jane is also a writer who uses the pen name of Phire Fox. She’s a Capricorn with a January 3 birthday and shares my birth year of 1961.

Here’s a bit about the book: Professor Jane Renard’s estranged husband was murdered in front of a thousand Z.Z. Top fans at the Minnesota State Fair — while Jane sat in the crowd. Marcus Sloan, a security guard, is her alibi and is soon her ally when she’s briefly suspected of murder.

That’s not her only problem. Jane has a ‘secret’ life as an erotic author and she’s up for a job promotion at college. If they find out about her novels, she’s sunk. Plus her best friend is being threatened by a vengeful ex, Jane’s getting disturbing fan mail to her alter ego and a guy keeps calling and talking dirty on the phone.

Jane’s biggest problem, though, is her inexperience with men. Marcus might be the man to help her add some interesting firsthand facts to her novels. Maybe she can also discover if happily ever after only happens in books.

By the way, if you want to learn how to use the Tarot for creating characters, take an online class with me. If you just want to dive into the Tarot and learn how to read for yourself and others, I’m also doing a class for that online.

Don’t miss the contest at the end! Now for the reading. (more…)

Recently I was told that it is necessary to grieve. The thought was that if you don’t grieve, you can not move through the sadness to reach the other side.

Those of you who follow this blog know that my life got turned upside down by (more…)

I’ve got another party to go to this weekend. I also have a TON of things to get done including driving 2.5 hours one way to take Miss Josephine Goose to her new home. As per usual, this is a party where we bring a dish to share. Our lovely hosts provide hamburgers, hotdogs and a pool. I’m really looking forward to that pool.

But I decided not to do baked beans this time. As much as I love doing them, it’s more time than I have to spare. The party starts at 3pm. I will be 2.5 hours away at 10am which means I’ll be home by 1 if all goes well. So I needed something super easy.

I asked my best friend, writing partner, fabulous artist and good cook too what she would do. She sent me a couple of recipes. I was instantly hungry but also knew (more…)

Fear.

Fear is such a funny beast, isn’t it? Causes us to do things we might not normally do like tear all our clothes off at a picnic because a bee flew in our sleeve. No I haven’t done that, but I have woken up approximately three counties worth of people with my screams at seeing a scorpion in my home.

Fear of not being enough can manifest, I think, as (more…)

I’m just starting week four of a five week online class on how to learn the Tarot. I’ve got the most amazing minds in this group. One of them asked what was in the Fool’s Bag. It created an intriguing discussion on our class loop about whether it was empty or full.

One person proposed that it was all 78 cards and the Fool’s journey was to learn how to use them.

So I asked this question: What is in my Fool’s bag?.

The premise behind the question is that this would be things I need to address, acknowledge or work with right now.

I pulled three cards. (more…)

When we last left our foolish Fool, he’d just met the very scary Death who told him to seek out “the one who balances.” Even though the Fool had more questions, Death had left him only telling him to stay on the path he was on.

So the Fool continued down the dusty road. He carried his little dog for a bit since he wasn’t sure that skeletal rider wouldn’t show back up. When the canine began to wiggle and whine, the Fool put him down on the ground. With a sigh, he adjusted his stick carrying his belongings wondering if he would ever find (more…)

Ahhh, I wondered when this card might show up. I really like this one for so many reasons. You see, this card is one I never really like in other decks. I instinctively mule-kick against what it traditionally represents. Joanna’s vision of this Major Arcana standard is very different from others. Even my primary reading deck shows this one in a fairly traditional manner. It seems to me that this particular card is the very antithesis of free-spirited living. So when I drew the (more…)
