Here is my next poem for the Major Arcana. For those of you who are new to my blog, this is a series that I do based on my 9Words Poetry Challenge that I developed. I’ve been doing this for nearly seven years but only (more…)

Today, I’m in a reversed Queen of Cups mood. :) I am feeling creative, but a little (okay a lot) naughty. You could say I’m really identifying with that wicked Jezebel as played by the gorgeous Bette Davis.

I started a thread years ago on a site. This thread is called 9Words: A Poetry Challenge. I am still doing this albeit on another site now.

The game is that someone (anyone) lists nine words. Just nine words…no rhyme or reason necessary. Then those who are playing take the words and make a poem out of them.

For me, this plays strongly into my (more…)

wheel_fortune_rwsOne of my favorites of the Major Arcana is the Wheel of Fortune. Not because of what it represents–although that is delightful, but because of my love of trivia. Are you still with me? Poetry about Tarot leads to trivia. Easy, right? (more…)

Hermit Rider-Waite-Smith

Hermit (Rider-Waite-Smith)

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with the Hermit. I see him in so many different ways. He is Luke’s mentor as Obi-Wan Kenobi. He is the bane of my existence reminding me of the Charge of the Goddess. He is the guardian at the gate of all I seek and all I fear.

Sometimes, I see this card and can feel my inner (more…)

rws_strengthIn my ongoing effort to write a poem for each of the major arcana, I have the Strength card in front of me. This is from the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot. Card 8 in this deck is the classic scene of the woman taming the lion. For me this is not an external struggle so much as an internal one. I see it as the external manifestation of our personal struggles with our own shadow selves.

This card is big for me right now as I am doing some personal shadow work. The second to last line came to me during some of this core examination. I realized that I needed to (more…)

rws_justiceJustice can be a harsh card if you know you are in the wrong. Sitting on his throne, he stares at you as if he knows every thing you’ve done right or wrong.

Libra is the sign associated with Justice. Consider how difficult it must be to balance things all the time. Is it our own panic that makes us see this card as bad?

When I am doing readings for people and Justice shows up, I often counsel them to be (more…)

rws_chariotThe Chariot represents mastery in the Major Arcana. Here we learn the lesson that we must drive our own lives if we are to be truly in charge. Some would tell you that the Charioteer is a ruthless warrior, but consider something if you will. (more…)

Oddly enough this was a difficult poem for me to write. At 47 I hold some rather cynical views on what love is and isn’t. Sometimes I have to rein myself in when I am in a Piscean fit of “love HA!”. My friends laughingly tell me I seem to do better at bitter in love poetry.

But write a poem I must and this is the next on the list of the 22 Major Arcana which means it is my 7th poem in this project. So I am either (more…)

Now let’s visit the Hierophant. Interestingly enough one of the words I chose for this card also was used in the Emperor. Stern. Stern to me is that firmness that brooks no argument. It can not be wheedled or pleaded. Stern simply is. I don’t see it as a bad thing. For me stern means “I know best. It may not be easy, but it is what must be done.” (more…)
