How Do You Get Turned On?

This card represents that force in us all when we get TURNED ON and TUNED IN to our lives–when we are truly connected to our soul. How do you make that connection?

DOTMc_1AceToday’s card is from a very interesting deck. It is a group artist effort that was produced in the 80’s. It’s full of feminist energies and images because it is one of the first (and perhaps only) lesbian designed Tarot decks. One of the unique things about this deck is that it is round.

I pulled the Ace of Wands this morning and had to laugh. I’d been on my iPhone pulling daily cards and had gotten the Queen of Wands not once but twice. So no surprise to me to see another Wand. With all the fire energy I’m pulling due to my word of the year, it’s going to happen.

Look at this card. Baby leaping out of the egg. Joy happening. The child is the spark. She is the fuel feeding all of that energy surrounding her. It’s not feeding her. She’s not seeking sustenance. She is sustenance. She is energy.

This card represents that force in us all when we get TURNED ON and TUNED IN to our lives–when we are truly connected to our soul. How do you make that connection?

A blogger I love, Jodi Chapman, talked about her soul-connecting playlist. While I’m not much of a music person (I prefer silence), I do have some songs that just reconnect me.

One of those is a new one on a very recently released album by Anna Fritz. It is the title track and was the thing that hooked me into participating in her fundraiser. The Gospel of Tree Bark moves me in ways I can’t explain. I sometimes listen to it when I just need to get back to myself.

What about you? How do you reconnect with yourself when you feel disconnected? Is it music? Art? Literature? Nature? What reconnects you?

  1. Music is one way to reconnect but sometimes when I need a refill of energies in order to spark again I get into the tub (lots of bubble bath and hot water) and read a book. That helps me to get negative energies out of my system and afterwards I come out like the baby out of the egg. πŸ˜‰

    1. Hello Satu! Water is one of my things as well. πŸ˜€ I’m a Pisces so that may have a bit to do with it. Great reminder that a bubble bath is always a good idea.

  2. Arwen, I loved listening to the Gospel of Tree Bark, thank you for sharing that. Making art, balancing my energy, writing, moving, connecting with friends all help me to reconnect with my soul.

  3. Oh how fun to see a Daughters of the Moon card – that deck had slipped from my consciousness and it’s nice to be reminded! Lovely song as well. I’d discovered it before, and was originally smitten by the name as I’m totally fascinated by tree bark. But it was a delight to find that I quite enjoyed the song. For myself, re-connecting is often through a watery route – listening to waves, or long bubble baths, or through scent and/or flower essences.

    1. Deborah, I was excited to see the B&W version is available again. Love this deck. And isn’t Anna amazing? Funny you mention bubble baths. After Satu’s mention of it, I treated myself to a bottle from the local health store. πŸ˜€

  4. Arwen,
I am not that familiar with tarot cards but I found your post very interesting, especially about re-connecting. When I paint I use music to free the left side of my brain to create and re-connect. Thanks for sharing this .

  5. One way for me is meditating, another is walking in nature, and music is definitely in there, too! I’ve never read much with this deck, but I do love some of the images. This one makes me smile πŸ™‚

      1. I belong to a woman’s group that walks the labyrinth across from Dougherty Arts parking lot near Barton Springs (Palmer Events Center) monthly during the full moon…all women are welcome!! Let me know if you want to attend.

  6. The one who organizes our full moon labyrinth walk hasn’t mentioned it on the website she posts to so I am sure it is not taking place….she also likes to do it just as it is starting to get dark….maybe her “full moon” rising is not the same night ….my sources say tomorrow, Sunday, January 27th not this evening….hope you see this before you trek out there Arwen!

  7. Oh Arwen,

You so pull at my heart.

That is MY deck! That is the only one I use. I love the music video too. How cool. I kept thinking that she was being pulled back to her natural heritage, like many of us are that have a Wiccan or Druid connection that ties us to our past. I lived in England for a while and it was so cool to live where the Druid culture is so alive and integrated into their own culture. Glastonbury is by far my favorite city in the world.

So what draws me? Nature. Music. Silence. The wind, the rain. Beauty. Smiling and laughter. Those are just a few…

Thanks for your lovely postings. It is ALWAYS a pleasure to come back here.

  8. I love this card. I’m also focused on turning on and tuning in so this is a great reinforcement that I’m on the right path. I love these cards you pull and the messages they share. Thank you.

  9. Great post Arwen. I’m enjoying learning more about tarot cards and their meaning.

The way I reconnect with myself is taking the time to do energy healing (Reiki) for myself, writing, collages or painting, listening to Abraham-Hicks, or simply lighting a candle and meditating to quiet my mind.
