REVIEW: Tarot Tour Guide

Tarot Tour Guide: Tarot, The Four Elements and Your Spiritual Journey
Christiana Gaudet
Jupiter Gardens Press, 2012

From the back cover:

Tarot Tour Guide offers easy tarot instruction to those just beginning their tarot journey. For enthusiasts of all levels of experience, Tarot Tour Guide presents tarot as a guide for the journey of life.

Tarot is a book of spiritual wisdom that maps the journey of life, describing the experiences and lessons we encounter along the way. Tarot is a tool of spiritual growth, divination, meditation and magick that is useful in every aspect of life, from the mundane to the mystical.

Your Spiritual Journey begins when you are present, conscious and intentional in each moment. Let tarot be your guide for that journey.

In this book you will find:

  • Tarot as a tool for your spiritual growth.
  • Understandable interpretations for all seventy-eight cards.
  • Instructions for reading tarot for yourself and others, using several tarot reading styles.
  • Eight tarot spreads, along with instructions to create your own tarot spreads.
  • An introduction to tarot magick, along with several tarot spells for love, healing, and prosperity.
  • Meditations and exercises to expand your understanding of tarot, and of yourself.
  • Ways to summon and connect with the four elements for balance and healing.
  • Ways tarot can help you in all aspects of life, including career, relationships, spiritual growth, creative development and communication with the spirit world.

My review: Here is a book that is sorely needed. Gaudet, a certified Tarot Grandmaster, gives away a well-known, but ignored, Tarot secret in the second paragraph of Chapter One. And that is that “tarot is so much more than simply a deck of cards.” Then she takes the reader with her on a journey into how to connect with Tarot on a spiritual level.

Gaudet gives tips and tricks including rituals, meditations, and more. You are invited to step through the open door into her temple to work with her. Her voice is gentle and very encouraging. She shares some of her own learning such as the four methods of reading.

Things that may be difficult for the beginner are the size of some of her spreads. I find that most prefer to work with smaller spreads, but Gaudet throws down spreads with nine or more cards. She is considerate though. She offers levels of exercises so you can potentially work through this book and then do it again using the more advanced techniques.

I had an advanced reader’s copy so the quibble I am going to talk about next may not be an issue in the final version. At times the book seemed disjointed. I can see where that might cause issues for those who prefer a more linear style. I resonated with this method.

Would I recommend this book? Yes, I would tell an intermediate or advanced Tarot student that this would be a useful companion for their studies. I particularly loved her practical advice on how to deliver “bad” news in a reading. I think Gaudet’s years of experience make this a book many will want.

With practical how-to methods and spreads, the spiritual focus will help a reader go deeper into their own spiritual connection with the Tarot should they want.
