SPREAD: Fairy Tale Spreads — Big Bad Wolf Spread

In the story of Little Red Riding Hood, Red had to deal with her nemesis, the big bad wolf. Her happy skipping through the forest was halted by the wolf but not ended. He obtained information from her that could be used against her later. At some point we all think there is a Big Bad Wolf in our lives.

This wolf could be someone we thought was a friend or perhaps a co-worker or even a family member. Sometimes it could even be ourselves. I’m huge on self-responsibility so my first thought is that I am responsible for the creation of any big bad wolves in my own life. Sometimes I am told that I am too hard on myself and need to realize that sometimes the Big Bad Wolf really is at my door.

So this spread is designed to take a look at those moments when we think the Big Bad Wolf is knocking. Is it a figment of our imaginations or a true threat to our happiness?

Fairy Tale Spreads--the Big Bad Wolf

  1. Who is the Big Bad Wolf in my life (remember that sometimes it can be yourself against yourself)
  2. What is the intensity of this threat? (Here is where you will see if the threat is real or paranoia)
  3. What type of threat is the Big Bad Wolf to me? (Emotional? Physical? Spiritual? Mental?)
  4. Why is the Big Bad Wolf a threat to me?
  5. How can I minimize this threat to me?
  6. Who can aid me against the Big Bad Wolf?
  7. What is the next task after I have defeated the Big Bad Wolf?

It’s important to remember a few things in this spread. One is that second question. What is the intensity of this energy. If you get a Knight of Wands, you can probably safely assume attack is imminent. But what about an Ace of Wands? For me this would make me lean towards the idea that the seed of passionate engagement is there but I have the ability to not nurture that energy. I can choose to step away.

Think of each card in terms of what choices it gives you. Enable yourself to find the tools you need to deal with this threat in creative, positive ways. And never forget the lesson those three little pigs and Little Red learned.

You can always turn to your friends and family for help. Red had the woodsman while the pigs had one another. That’s card six in this spread. I look forward to hearing what your readings turn up. Who is huffing and puffing in your life?
