Tarot & Food: Four Of Cups Down In The Dumps Cake

Four OF Cups World Spirit TarotOk, so I’m having a bit of fun here with the name. I often say that the 4 of Cups is the doldrums or being down in the dumps card. Generally this card shows up as a reminder to not focus on what’s lost. I love the World Spirit Tarot 4 of Cups (shown here) because this person has walked themselves into this situation. See that path behind them? All they have to do is get up and turn around. My clients often get this question from me: “What is so important that you can’t go back a few steps?”

And that cup floating above the head? It’s because there’s an emotional gift waiting but you have to reach for it. And that involves letting go of your need to mope. Yep, I said need as in someone trapped in a 4 of Cups situation can leave it but there is something keeping them there. And as someone who is an aficianado of 4 of Cups moments, I know how addictive they can be.

So here’s a recipe guaranteed to pull you out of the dumps! It’s so sweet it will cheer you up out of the worst of emotional upheavals. A dear friend makes this (or a version of this) for potlucks. She always says she can bring anything but the crowd whines if she doesn’t bring her dump cake too.

4 of Cups Robin Wood TarotFour Of Cups Down In The Dumps Cake

1 22 oz can cherry pie filling (I use 2 cans)
1 8 1/4 oz can crushed pineapple, undrained
1 pckg yellow cake mix
1 c margarine, melted
1 c flaked coconut
1 c pecan pieces

Spoon pie filling evenly into bottom of 13x9x2″ pan.

Spread pineapple over pie filling.

Sprinkle dry cake mix on top of pineapple. Pour melted margarine
evenly over all.

Sprinkle with coconut and pecans.

Bake at 325 for 1 hour.

And remember that we choose to hang on to somethings for the wrong reasons. Don’t let yourself get so used to pain that that is all you know how to feel, ok?

  1. This is so funny! I just read your latest post (June 1) and decedid to come back and reread the cards for that day which you’d already pulled singly. Both these cards and the messages are a perfect example of the alchemy you describe when they come together. I find “echos” (if they can be called that since they predate the June 1 post) of your words, and your commenter’s, in the post to come.Back to the future…weird. And, as a further personal inspiration, you pulled this card the day before I began my new job, the first out-of-home work I’ve had in nearly 11 years. That in itself is a cog in the wheel of my own life transformation. Thanks, Sheri!
