Character Reading: Alric (Fictional Character)

Today I am happy to share a reading I did for Alric. He’s a bit cranky but he has a right to be. He is the hero of JK Coi’s latest, Dark Immortal.

Blurb: Five years of happiness, erased in one vicious act of violence.

Diana freed Alric from his prison and the insanity of his own mind, offering him the kind of love only a fool would deny. Now she lies broken and comatose from a vampire attack, locked deep inside herself where he cannot reach her.

Awakening in a strange bed, Diana has no memory of how she got there. The huge, muscled man leaning over her is straight out of nightmares full of blood and pain. Married to him? It can’t be true…even if her body craves his touch, and the anguish in his eyes shatters something deep inside her.

Alric has no intention of giving up on the woman who never stopped fighting for him. His one hope is that time will heal her mind. But with a demon god poised to tip the balance of power, time is not on their side…

So here is the character reading for JK Coi’s Immortal hero, Alric. Date of birth is early August 1178 AD which makes him a Leo. This is an Urban Fantasy from JK Coi. For this reading, I used the World Spirit Tarot.

Question 1: How do you see the people around you?

The Ace of Cups is the emotional wellspring. It is almost as if you draw your energy from those around you. Their emotions are important to you on many levels. There is also a feeling here that you do not want to drink too deeply from any one cup so you spread yourself around.
And the moon seems to be significant here. Is there something about phases that is important to you, Alric?

Alric: I’m not sure how much of this I believe, or understand—in fact, I’m pretty violently opposed to this fate crap. But Diana wanted me to stay open to it, so okay, I’ll bite. The Ace of Cups, huh? You know, for me, emotion is a dangerous thing. For so long, I felt nothing but pain, anger, hate. Diana is my wellspring. She’s the calm to my storm. And the only phase that’s really important is the one that brought her to me—which is why this thing between us now is killing me.

Question 2: How are you seen by the people around you?

People see you as someone aching for a fight on some level. Five of Wands is about strife and sometimes being drawn to it. What is it that does this to you? It is not so much war as it is a testing of strength and inner resolve. Do you fight to keep other emotions at bay? I think being a warrior is so ingrained in you that you are going to have a tough time learning to be anything else.

Alric: Well, you’re right in that at least. When it comes right down to it, there isn’t anything else for me. The warrior is all I’ve ever known and all I’ll ever be. There’s a deep part of me that needs the fight. And in fact, I struggle with the reality of that—of my responsibility to fight and the responsibility I have to keep my wife safe from that dangerous world.

Question 3: What is your most important goal?

The High Priestess is the secrets keeper. You are searching for someone who holds the key to your past? Or is that the key to your future? When the High Priestess shows up, I remind my clients of this.
“If what thou seekest thou dost not find within, thou willst never find without”
Which is really just a poorly worded way of saying, it’s already inside you. So the thing you are looking for…the thing you’ve been journeying towards for so long? It’s been inside you this whole time.

And finding the one who can open you up is going to be hard because she keeps herself in the shadows.

Alric: Look, nobody wants me to open up. You wouldn’t like what you found if you dug too deep. That’s why I thank God for Diana—she keeps the darkness at bay. Or she did until… Damn. This attack on her, my failure to protect her—the attack has done something to us. There’s a distance in her that I can’t breach now, a gulf that I can’t cross. Indeed, it is as if she shrouds herself in shadows and hides herself from me. I can’t bear it, and I hate that I don’t know how to fix it.

Question 4: Where do you get your strength from?

What an unusual card for this answer, Alric. This is the 6 of Cups which is generally the card of nostalgia and looking back. But I am more drawn to the abundance of food and drink in the foreground. One bowl is filled with fire which makes me think of passion. Do you draw strength and energy from passion? Perhaps excesses of humanity is where you get your strength from? Their memories of love and lust and pain and sorrow? Or is it your own memories that sustain you and drive you forward?

Alric: Strength. Passion. Memories. There’s much to be said for such a trio. One and the same sometimes, are they not? Beyond that, I dare not venture a guess as to the meaning of this card, or the answer to your question.

Arwen adds: Well now that I know more of the backstory, it’s obvious that you draw strength from the relationship you and Diana had previous to her attack.

Question 5: Why do you want to be remembered?

Wheel of Fortune is how you want to be remembered, eh? Well that’s not so bad but it’s tough to be the one who brings all things to all people. You’ve had to be midwife and grim reaper and all things in between.
But you want to be remembered as someone who didn’t wait for the wheel to turn. You reached out and turned it, didn’t you? You make things happen. I get a sense that you do not ever want to be the one tied to the wheel again. You want … no need to be the wheel turner.

Alric: Hmph. No, the wheel shall never tie me again. In that you are most-definitely right. After a century chained to the wall in a dark, empty cave—Yeah, that’s not going to happen. And it’s why this thing called fate is a hard thing for me to accept. Does it take away that which I fought so long to regain? Freedom? Control? If I am remembered for anything, I would that it be for the one good part of me—Diana. And for the love we shared—which I pray isn’t lost forever.
